ALFW models take this one slightly differently. Overdosing detergent is a genuine and common cause. Foam that climbs past the drawer or out of the door seal puts real water on the floor from a machine that has nothing wrong with it. What this looks like on a ALFW unit
- A slow drip behind the machine that never stops — Supply side, under mains pressure, and present whether the machine runs or not. On the ALFW line this is where the checking starts.
- Water appearing only during the spin — The seal is being tested hardest then, which points at the door rather than the hoses.
- Damp at the back with a dry front — Inlet hoses, their washers, or the standpipe connection.
- NEAR MISS: the machine will not start and the floor is dry — A start fault, covered separately.
Ranked causes on the ALFW line
- Too much detergent, or the wrong kind — Ranked first because it is the most common and the most completely free: foam climbs past the drawer and the door seal and lands on the floor from a healthy machine. This holds its place across the ALFW models listed below.
- A dirty or damaged door seal — Second. Grease, fibres and a trapped underwire all stop the seal compressing, and spin is when it shows.
- A blocked drain path forcing water out elsewhere — The link people miss: water that cannot leave finds the weakest joint, so a drainage fault presents as a leak.
- A failed drum bearing seal or a split tub — Last, and the only one that is not owner work. It leaks from underneath at the back and it arrives with a rumble.
Check in this order, and why
- Halve the detergent dose and run one cycle — Free, fast, and it settles the foam question conclusively. The ALFW layout is the reason it comes first here.
- Pull the door seal fold back all the way round — Look for trapped objects, tears and hardened sections, and feel for grease.
- Note when in the cycle the leak appears — Fill, wash, spin or drain — each points at a different component.

Power off at the plug or the breaker, then close the water taps. Mop the floor before you kneel on it. The door lock and its wiring stay exactly as built; the machine is designed around that behaviour and a full drum has to stay contained.

When this becomes a service call
The line is the cabinet. Everything you can reach at the front and at the hose connections is yours; anything inside is not. Call at once if the leak arrives with a rumbling noise, because the bearing seal has probably gone.
