The unifying rule across the whole list is that the outer case is the boundary — the high-voltage capacitor inside holds a charge after the oven is unplugged. The problem classes on this machine

Causes in order of likelihood
- Door latch and interlock wear — The most common fault on this appliance by a clear margin. The latch takes every open and close, and three switches in series mean a single worn part leaves the oven dead with the panel lit.
- Touch-panel degradation — Second, and strongly associated with over-range installation, where steam and grease from the cooktop reach the panel constantly.
- Cavity and wave-guide damage — Third. Food splashes carbonise on the wave guide cover and then arc, which damages it further — a fault that escalates quickly once it starts.
- Turntable mechanism wear — Fourth, and the most benign class on the list: noisy, visible and usually fixed with a clean and a reseat.
- High-voltage component failure — Least common and entirely off limits. The magnetron, diode and capacitor fail with the oven otherwise running normally, and none of them are approachable by an owner.

The safety boundary on this repair
Safety
Unplug the appliance before touching the door latch area, and do not remove the case for any reason. The latch switches are a safety system, not a convenience, and they are not adjustable by hand. If the door does not pull the machine to a stop, or the seal face is scorched, stop using the oven.

The boundary on a microwave is unlike every other appliance in the kitchen: the owner-side work ends at the outer case, without exception, because the high-voltage capacitor holds a dangerous charge after the oven is unplugged. Cleaning the cavity, the turntable, the door face and the vents is yours. Everything else is a technician with a discharge tool. A damaged door, a scorched cavity or an oven that sparks with nothing metallic inside should be taken out of service rather than scheduled around.
