- A blocked air gap or a missing high loop — Without the loop or a clear air gap the drain siphons back and the base never empties.
- A control or wiring fault in the pump circuit — Last: real but rare next to a filter that has simply filled up. It earns that place across the range.
What to look at first, second, third
- Bail out the standing water first — For Avanti dishwashers, do not skip this: you cannot see the sump through dirty water.
- Follow the drain hose to the sink or standpipe — A hose that has been flattened by the machine being pushed back is extremely common.

Isolate the machine first; a capacitor can stay charged after the power is off. The water in the base is dirty and may be hot, so let it cool and bail it rather than tipping the machine. Dishwasher detergent residue is strongly alkaline, so keep it off your skin.
When this stops being an owner job
Hand it over once the path is proved clear, and tell the technician whether the pump hums or is silent at the drain step, and whether the sink drains freely. Those two answers usually take the diagnosis straight to the right component.
