What is going on across the TLW line
On an Avanti TLW washer noise sorts by when it happens. A grinding on every rotation is something in the drum or the pump; a thumping only at spin is balance or suspension; a squeal that rises with speed is a bearing or a belt. Timing the noise to the cycle stage is the whole diagnosis.
What the owner sees
- A metallic rattle on every drum rotation — In the TLW family, rotation-linked noise means a foreign object, and it will keep damaging the drum until it is out.
- A grinding or gravel noise during drain — For TLW models, drain-stage noise points at the pump path, which is behind the filter hatch.
- The machine moves across the floor during the spin — Where TLW models are concerned, a walking machine strains its own hoses and connections, so it is worth fixing promptly.
- A hum with no drum movement at all — On TLW models in particular, noise without rotation is not a balance problem and belongs with the cycle-fault page.
- A rhythmic squeal that rises with the spin — In the TLW family, a bearing or a belt under load, and it gets worse rather than better with use.

Likely causes for TLW models, most common first
- An unbalanced load — First, because it is the most common by a wide margin and it needs nothing but a rearranged drum.
- Worn suspension, dampers or springs — It ranks below the free causes because it is a real part failure and it needs the cabinet opened. It is ranked the same way on every TLW model.
- Transit bolts or packing never removed at installation — A machine still bolted for transport cannot isolate the drum, so every spin is transmitted straight into the cabinet.
- A failing drum bearing or a worn belt — It comes last because everything cheaper imitates it, and because bearing work is a major repair on most machines. It is ranked the same way on every TLW model.
What to look at first, second, third
- Open the door and redistribute the load by hand — On this family, if the spin then runs quietly, the fault was the load and nothing needs repairing.
- Push each top corner and check for rock — Level it in both directions and make sure the lock nuts are tight against the cabinet.
- Turn the empty drum slowly by hand and listen — Across the TLW line, reach into the drum and feel round the inside lip for a protruding wire or screw.
- Feel right round the drum and the seal folds by hand — On every TLW model in the table, do it with the machine isolated and turn the drum slowly by hand while you feel.

Power off at the plug or the breaker before any investigation inside the machine — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Get help to move a washer: they are heavy, top-heavy when wet, and a dropped machine damages hoses and feet. Every switch stays wired as found.

When this stops being an owner job
The owner half of a noise complaint is the load, loose objects, the transit bolts, the feet and the floor. Beyond that, call — and call sooner rather than later for a bearing, because a bearing left to run takes the drum and the seal with it.
