The short answer for WBC models
An Avanti WBC refrigerator makes water every day by design: defrost melt has to run down a drain, through a tube and into a pan where it evaporates. When any part of that path blocks you get water inside the cabinet, under the drawers or across the floor. That path is the first thing to check, and most of it is reachable.
What this looks like in use
- Water inside, under the crisper drawers — On the WBC line, the defrost drain is backing up into the cabinet before it ever reaches the floor.
- Damp along the door edge with a dry floor — On WBC models, a dry floor and a damp frame is normal; treat it as a leak only if it puddles.
- Water at the front, just inside the door — In the WBC family, a gasket passing humid air condenses it right there, and it runs down the liner.
- Water pooling on the floor of the cabinet, under the crisper — Where WBC models are concerned, a pool under the bottom drawer, refilling every day or two, is the drain path almost every time.
- A clean, clear puddle that returns within hours — Across the WBC line, fast refilling means a supply line, not condensate — condensate arrives slowly.
- NEAR MISS — water AND a warm cabinet — Then the leak is a symptom of a defrost or airflow fault. Read the cooling-failure page for your model line first.
Ranked causes on the WBC line
- A blocked defrost drain — It leads because every cabinet makes defrost water daily, so the drain is the one part of the water path that is always working.
- A cabinet out of level tipping water the wrong way — The drain path relies on gravity, so a machine tilted forward sends melt water into the cabinet instead of down the tube. On WBC models it earns that place.
- A drain pan that has overflowed or shifted — The pan under the cabinet is meant to evaporate defrost melt, and a pan knocked out of position spills instead.
- A perished or disconnected drain tube — It comes here because you have to get behind and under the machine to see it, which is past most owners. That is the position it takes on this family.
What to look at first, second, third
- Find the highest point the water reaches — For WBC models, water runs down, so the top of the wet trail is nearest the fault — that single observation names the cause.
- Find the defrost drain hole and test that it flows — If the water sits there or backs up, the drain is your fault and clearing it is the repair.
- Clear the drain channel at the back of the cabinet — Looking at WBC models specifically, warm water and patience; never a metal tool, which splits the liner.

Safety
Water and electricity in the same cabinet is the hazard here, so unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before you put a hand anywhere wet — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Dry the floor before you stand on it, and if water has reached a control board or a light fitting, stop and call rather than drying it out and hoping.

Where the owner line falls
Hand it over once the drain flows, the pan is right, the machine is level and the seal passes the paper test, and water still appears. At that point you are looking at tubing inside the cabinet wall or at the defrost circuit, neither of which is reachable without a teardown. Switch the machine off at the wall if the leak is fast.
