The URBD answer in short
On an Avanti URBD refrigerator the first question about a leak is whether the water is cold and clean or not, and the second is whether it appears inside the cabinet or on the floor. Those two answers separate a blocked defrost drain from a fill-line fault, and they are the difference between a free fix and a plumber.
What the owner sees
- Droplets on the inside of the rear wall — On a URBD model, sweating on the liner is usually humidity and door openings, not a fault.
- Water at the front, just inside the door — Within the URBD family, a gasket passing humid air condenses it right there, and it runs down the liner.
- Ice building up under the bottom drawer or on the freezer floor — On the URBD line, a sheet of ice in the base is the same fault as a pool, caught in a colder compartment.
- Damp along the door edge with a dry floor — On the URBD line, a dry floor and a damp frame is normal; treat it as a leak only if it puddles.
- NEAR MISS — water AND a warm cabinet — Then the leak is a symptom of a defrost or airflow fault. Read the cooling-failure page for your model line first.
Ranked causes on the URBD line
- A blocked defrost drain — First and by a wide margin: the drain hole is small, it sits in a cold damp place, and it silts up with food debris and then freezes.
- A drain that freezes shut because the defrost system is failing — If the drain keeps refreezing after you clear it, the fault is upstream in the defrost circuit rather than in the drain. The URBD models in the table below are no exception.
- A spill inside the cabinet that was never the appliance at all — A tipped container or a bag of thawing food accounts for a surprising share of "leaks" reported on these units.
- A perished or disconnected drain tube — Last of the common causes: the tube hardens with age, cracks at the bend, or falls out of the pan when the machine is pushed back. Nothing in the URBD line changes that order.
Check in this order, and why
- Find the highest point the water reaches — On URBD models in particular, water runs down, so the top of the wet trail is nearest the fault — that single observation names the cause.
- Look underneath at the evaporating pan — On every URBD model in the table, pull the machine forward and use a torch: a pan out of position explains every drop on the floor.
- Put kitchen paper down and find the highest wet point — On a URBD model, leave the paper for a day rather than watching for a minute.
Before you begin
Safety
Isolate the refrigerator at the plug or the breaker and close any water supply before touching a fitting; a capacitor can stay charged after the power is off. Clear a drain with warm water and time, never with a metal tool — the liner is thin and a puncture is not repairable. Leave every switch and sensor as fitted.

When this stops being an owner job
Call when the drain refuses to clear, when it clears and refreezes within days, or when water has reached anything electrical. A drain that freezes shut repeatedly is a defrost-circuit fault rather than a blockage, and that is a technician job. So is any leak you cannot trace to a point above the water.
