What this usually is on FC cabinets
A leak on the FC family is a routing problem. Every refrigerator produces water; the drain, the pan and the seal are the three things that decide where it goes, and a fault in any of them puts it on your floor instead. Isolate the machine before you work on the floor around it.
What the owner sees
- Water at the back, near the wall — On a cabinet with a water supply this is the line or its connection; without one it is the pan.
- The gasket itself is wet along one edge — That edge is where room air is getting in, and it is where the seal test should start.
- Water running down the inside back wall onto a shelf — Melt leaving the evaporator area by the wrong route.
- NEAR MISS — water plus a new rattle from underneath — A pan that has shifted makes noise and spills at the same time, and both stop when it is seated properly.
Causes, most likely first on FC models
- Defrost drain blocked — Every cycle melts the frost off the evaporator and sends it down a small drain to a pan underneath. It heads the list because the three codes in this group share it — nothing in the model table separates one code from another on this point.
- Drain pan cracked, displaced or overflowing — The pan sits over the compressor so its heat can evaporate what collects. Second because it is nearly as common but takes longer to confirm, and confirming it in the wrong order wastes the time the first check would have saved.
- Cabinet not level, so condensate runs the wrong way — The channels inside a refrigerator rely on a slight tilt backwards to work. Third on FC: it is still something you can see rather than measure, but it takes the cabinet emptied or moved and the two above it do not.
What to check first, second, third
- The order and why — Two of the causes above are settled from inside the cabinet and two need it pulled out. Doing the inside pair first avoids moving a full machine for nothing.
- Find the drain opening and check it takes water — It sits at the base of the compartment. A spoonful of warm water poured in should disappear; if it sits, the drain is the fault.
- Pull the cabinet out and look at the pan — It should sit square on its bracket and be damp rather than brimming. Note whether it is cracked or merely displaced.
- Check the cabinet sits square and slightly back — A spirit level across the top, or a door that swings open on its own, tells you in seconds.

Switch the breaker off or unplug the unit before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Anything you do behind the freezer rear panel happens next to a fan blade that the door switch is there to stop, so leave that switch alone.

When this stops being owner work
Two conditions make this a service call rather than a Saturday job: the cause is behind a sealed panel, or the cause is the sealed system itself. Either way the tools are not owner tools and the refrigerant is not owner-serviceable.
