The short answer for ARF models
Water on the floor around an Avanti ARF refrigerator is usually a blocked defrost drain rather than a burst line: the drain tube behind the freezer wall silts up or freezes, the defrost melt has nowhere to go, and it finds its way out under the crisper drawers. It is a cheap fault and it is the first one to look for.
What you actually observe
- Water dripping from the dispenser after each use — A few drops are normal. A steady drip is a dispenser valve not seating.
- Droplets running down the inside of the door liner — A seal that is no longer touching, so warm humid room air is condensing inside.
- Water at the back of the cabinet — The supply line, its connection or the fill valve.
- Water at the front of the cabinet on the kitchen floor — A drain pan that has cracked or overflowed, or condensate running off a failed door seal.
- A sheet of ice on the freezer floor — Melt that refroze before it could reach the drain.
- NEAR MISS — water only under the toe grille and the unit is new — Condensate from commissioning, which settles in the first days.
Causes on ARF, most likely first
- Defrost drain tube blocked with debris — Ranked first because every unit of this type makes defrost melt and this is the only path it has.
- Drain pan cracked or dislodged — The pan sits over the compressor and is knocked out of place whenever the unit is moved, which is when most owners notice.
- Dispenser valve not seating — A steady drip after each use rather than the normal few drops.
- Door seal failing — Warm room air condensing inside the cabinet puts far more water in than most people expect, and the seal is checkable in a minute.
The order that saves the most time
- Where to begin — The order below follows the ranking rather than the machine: three of the four causes above cost nothing to rule out on ARF models, so they come first.
- Feel the floor at the back for wet against dry — Water at the back is the supply side and needs the tap shut before anything else.
- Pull the unit out and look at the drain pan — It should sit square over the compressor and be damp rather than full.
- Look under the crisper drawers before you mop anything up — Water there is close to conclusive for a blocked defrost drain and it disappears the moment you clean it away.
What to isolate before you start
Safety
Pull the plug or switch the breaker off before any panel is disturbed, and remember that a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut the water supply as well if the refrigerator has an ice maker or a dispenser, because that connection is at mains pressure and it is behind the cabinet where you will be working. Leave interlocks alone and leave the sealed system to a licensed technician.

When to call a technician
Call a technician when the checks above have not changed anything, when the fault needs a meter on live terminals, or when the answer turns out to be the sealed system.
