The short answer for WQP models
A leaking WQP dishwasher on an Avanti needs the water shut off before it is diagnosed, because this is one of the few appliance faults fed continuously by mains pressure. Once the supply is closed, the leak sorts quickly by where it appears: the door, the base, or the connections at the back.
What the owner sees
- Water running down the front of the door — The door seal or the lower door gasket, which is the commonest leak on this class.
- A leak that continues when the machine is off — Mains pressure, which means the supply valve should be closed now.
- Suds on the floor as well as water — Too much detergent, or washing-up liquid put in by mistake, and the overflow is the symptom.
- The machine stops mid-cycle with a fault after a leak — Many machines have a base tray float that shuts them down when it lifts.
- NEAR MISS — condensation on the door at the end of a cycle — That is the drying phase venting and it is not a leak.
Causes on WQP, most likely first
- Door seal perished or displaced — Ranked first because the door is the only part of a dishwasher that opens, and its seal takes a set from thousands of cycles of heat.
- Fill valve leaking past its seat — A slow continuous drip that shows up as damp long before it shows as a puddle.
- Sump seal or heater seal leaking — Behind the base panel, and where this stops being an owner repair.
- Supply hose connection loose — The one leak fed by mains pressure, and the reason the tap goes off first.
Check in this order, and why
- Before anything else — This order exists because the cheap causes are also the likely ones: two of the four named above can be settled on WQP models before a tool comes out.
- Run a finger round the whole door seal for debris and hard spots — Both hold the seal open and both are free to fix.
- Dry everything, put paper down and run a short cycle while watching — It is the only way to see where water actually starts rather than where it arrives.
- Close the supply valve and see whether the leak stops — A leak that continues with the water off is stored water; a leak that stops is mains-fed and urgent.

Safety
Switch off the breaker or pull the plug, and close the supply valve, before any panel comes off a dishwasher. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and this appliance puts live terminals and pressurised water within a hand of each other under the tub. The heating element in the sump stays hot well after a cycle ends, so give it time before you reach in.
