The short answer
Water standing in the bottom of a WQP machine is a blocked or badly routed drain far more often than a failed pump. A countertop machine relies entirely on the drain hose being kept above the water in the tub. Work from the tub outwards and you will find it without tools in most cases. There is one number under the WQP label in the table below, so nothing here depends on which variant you own.
What you observe on these models
- Water clears and then returns within a minute — Hose height, every time.
- The machine hums at the end of the cycle with nothing moving — The pump is running against a block.
- Water remains in the tub at the end of the cycle — Anything more than a cupful over the filter counts.
- A smell developing after a few days — Standing water and trapped debris, which is the same fault seen a week later.
- NEAR MISS — the machine will not fill at all — That is a supply fault and belongs on the no-start page.
Causes, most likely first on the WQP family
- Drain hose height, which on this machine is the whole story — First on this platform: the hose must stay above the water level in the tub for the pump to clear it; hooked into a sink below that line, the tub refills itself as fast as it empties.
- The filter at the base of the tub — Second, and on a small machine it blocks quickly.
- A sink waste shared with the machine — Third: where the machine drains into the same trap as the sink, a blocked sink backs up into the machine. The tell is a sink that empties slowly at the same time.
- The machine running a cycle it has not finished — Fourth: a paused or interrupted programme leaves water in the tub legitimately. Restarting and letting it complete is the first thing to try.
- The internal pump and its impeller — Last: hum with no flow, same as on any machine.
Check in this order, and why that order
- Lift the drain hose above the tub and watch — If it clears, the hose height is the fault and nothing inside the machine is wrong.
- Remove the standing water and rinse the filter — Small machines block fast.
- Scoop out the standing water and rinse the filter — Free, fast, and behind the first check only because the hose is quicker to look at.
- Check the coupler and the tap — A machine that has not filled properly has less to drain than you think.
- If the machine drains into a disposer, confirm the knockout plug was removed — It is a one-time installation step and a machine that has never drained properly usually never had it done.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. On this platform there is no check worth doing that cannot wait the thirty seconds it takes to isolate the machine properly.
