What the machine is doing
- A wet patch that appears only after a defrost — Timed, and that timing is the single most useful clue on this list.
- Sweating on the outside of the cabinet or its frame — Warm moist room air meeting a cold surface, which is a gasket and a humidity question.
- The floor is wet only when the kitchen is humid — Condensation rather than meltwater, and the cure is ventilation rather than a repair.
- NEAR MISS — water arriving fast, cold and clean — That is the supply line, not meltwater. Shut the water off at the valve first, then read on.
Causes, most likely first on the AFR series
- A door seal letting warm damp air in — Every gram of moisture that leaks in has to condense somewhere cold. A tired gasket produces steady damp and frost in the same corner, day after day.
- The ice maker fill tube or its seal — A fill that misses the mould puts a small amount of water into the freezer every cycle, which arrives as a sheet of ice under the bin rather than as a puddle.
- The water supply line, its fitting or the inlet valve — A supply leak is clean, cold and fast, and it does not wait for a defrost cycle. The compression fitting at the back is the usual point.
- Humid loading and open-door habits — Hot food put straight in, or a door held open while a meal is planned, puts a lot of water into a cold box, and it has to go somewhere.
What to check first, second, third
- Pull the cabinet out and look under it for the pan — A cracked or displaced pan is visible from the back in a minute and invisible from the front forever.
- Decide first whether the water is clean and cold or is meltwater — A supply leak needs the water shut off immediately. Meltwater can wait until you have read the rest of the list.
- Dry everything, then watch across a full day — Most of this list is identified by when the water comes rather than by where it collects.
- Switch the ice maker off for a couple of days if there is one — It is the cheapest way to eliminate a fill-side leak without taking anything apart.

Power off first, every time: unplug the machine or switch off its breaker before a panel is touched, because a capacitor can hold a charge long after the supply is gone. Keep the door switch and every other interlock wired as you find them: each one stops something moving while a hand is inside. If a step needs a meter on live terminals, that is the end of owner work and the start of a service call.
