Asko W Series Washer is the scope of this page, and on it a cycle that will not run through points first at an unbalanced load the machine will not spin. What the machine is doing
- It stalls before the spin every time — Spin is where the machine needs a drained tub and a balanced load, and both are checked before it commits.
- It stops with water still in the drum — A machine that cannot drain will not advance, and that is where this usually ends.
- The time remaining goes up instead of down — The machine is extending the cycle because a condition has not been met, usually fill or balance.
- It fills, drains and refills repeatedly — A rinse loop it will not leave, which points at water level sensing or at a siphoning drain.
- A code appears part way through and the drum stops — The machine has ruled that it cannot continue and has said which family of faults it means.
- NEAR MISS — nothing happens at all when start is pressed — That is a starting fault and it has its own page.
Causes, most likely first on the W series
- An unbalanced load the machine will not spin — The giveaway is a cycle that takes far longer than it should and ends with wet washing, rather than one that stops dead.
- A restricted drain or a blocked pump filter — A washer will not spin against a full tub, so the cycle stalls before the spin every time. The filter is the first place to look and it is designed to be opened.
- A slow or partial fill — Inlet screens collect grit from the supply, and they are checkable with the water off and the hose undone.
- A door lock that releases or reports wrongly mid-cycle — If the lock reports open, the machine stops where it stands. A worn lock does this intermittently, which is why the fault seems random.
- Pressure or level sensing out of range — It produces the fill-and-drain loop and the cycle that never advances, and it is an inexpensive part behind a panel.
- A control board or motor control fault — Last, dearest, and the one that everything above imitates. A code that repeats on every cycle regardless of the load points here.
What to check first, second, third
- Clean the pump filter before anything else — It is designed to be opened by the owner and it is the single most common cause here.
- Look at whether water is left in the drum when it stops — Water left in means drainage; a dry drum means the machine stopped for another reason entirely.
- Check both taps and the inlet screens if the fill is slow — A machine waiting for water looks exactly like a machine that has stalled.
- Only then consider the lock, the sensing and the control — They need panels off and a meter, and they are far less common than the causes above.
Before anything comes apart

Before a panel comes off, the machine comes off the supply: unplug it or switch its breaker off. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A loaded machine is extremely heavy and holds water even when it looks empty. Drain it through the filter before it is tipped or moved. No step on this page asks you to defeat an interlock, and none should be improvised into one.
