An Artt dryer that trips its circuit, smells hot or has a warm or discoloured plug should be switched off at the breaker and left off. Sustained heavy current is what makes these faults progressive: they do not settle down, they escalate. The owner's job here is to isolate the machine, clear the lint path and describe the symptom accurately, not to test anything.
What you actually see
- A warm plug or a discoloured socket — A high-resistance connection under sustained load, and it worsens every cycle.
- The circuit tripping when heating starts — An element or harness fault to earth.
- A scorched smell during a cycle — Lint on or near the heater. Isolate rather than finish the load.
- A burning-plastic smell near the panel — Overheating insulation or a connector.
- Any tingle from the cabinet — Stop immediately: that is current on metalwork and an earthing question.
Causes, most likely first
- Plug and socket degradation — First on this appliance specifically, because of the sustained load.
- Lint against the heater — Second, and the fire risk that is unique to dryers.
- Element or harness leaking to earth — Third, and it gives the repeatable trip at the heat phase.
- Motor or capacitor failure — Fourth, with a distinctive smell and often a hum.
- A household circuit fault — Last, and it is what remains when the machine is unplugged and the device still trips.
Work down this list
- Switch off at the breaker — An action rather than a check, and the first one.
- Feel the plug and look at the socket — Warmth or discolouration is a finding in itself.
- Note when the fault occurs in the cycle — Heat, start or random. It narrows the cause substantially.
- Stop — Everything past this needs isolation, instruments and someone qualified.
The checks you can run yourself
- Isolate at the breaker and unplug the machine — Leave it isolated rather than running one more load.
About 5 min
- Inspect the plug pins, flex and socket for heat damage — Discolouration, melting or a smell means both plug and socket are replaced by an electrician.

- Clear the lint filter, the filter housing and the duct — The one owner action that reduces the fire risk while the machine waits.

- Reset the protective device once with the machine unplugged — If it trips again, the fault is in the house. Stop here either way.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A standard household branch circuit is 15 A or 20 A, and a dryer sits near the top of what that carries for an hour at a time, which is exactly why its connections fail first. Never dry anything that has been in contact with oil, solvent or wax: it can ignite in the drum after the heat has stopped. If a gas model smells of gas, leave the building without touching any switch and call the gas utility or the emergency services from outside.
When to stop and book someone
Call at the first burning smell, repeated trip or warm plug, and keep the machine isolated until somebody has looked at it. Call an electrician rather than an appliance technician when the socket is damaged, when the device trips with the machine unplugged, or when anybody has felt a shock: those are circuit and earthing faults. For a gas model, burner and supply work belongs to a registered gas engineer and nobody else.

Where this page stops
This page covers the Artt dryer class and stops where measurement or gas work begins. It publishes no element ratings, no circuit sizes for specific models, no wiring colours and no burner data, because those differ between builds under this badge and publishing them encourages unsafe work. Household wiring belongs to a licensed electrician; gas supply, burners and flues belong to a registered gas engineer.
