Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and a washer's motor capacitor is a real hazard in a wet room. The door interlock must be left intact: it is what keeps a drum full of water from being opened at speed, and it is not something to work around while diagnosing a starting fault.
When to call a technician
Call when the tap is open, the outlet is live, no lock is engaged and the machine still will not begin, because the interlock and the control then need testing on an isolated machine. Call an electrician instead if the breaker trips on reset with the washer unplugged.
