The short answer

- Water only on one particular programme — A programme that fills higher, uses a different compartment of the dispenser or spins faster will expose a leak that gentler programmes do not.
- A damp patch that only appears under a heavy load — Water level rises with the load, so a seal or a fitting that is sound on a small wash can be overtopped on a full one.
- NEAR MISS — water tracking along the floor from another appliance — In a fitted kitchen the machine is often the lowest point rather than the source, so confirm the water starts at the washer before anything is dismantled.
Causes, most likely first on the ARWXF line
- Inlet hose fittings or the tap connection — Ranked first here, because they are under mains pressure every hour of every day, whether or not the machine is used, which makes them the only leak here that can empty a tank into a kitchen. Dry the floor, close both taps and unplug the appliance before anything is opened: a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water at the base of the cabinet is where the mains connections are, so the machine comes off supply before it comes out of its space. Do not kneel in a wet floor to work, and expect a supply hose to hold pressure for a moment after the tap is shut.

When to call a technician
Call when the hoses, the filter cover, the seal and the dispenser are all dry and the floor still wets, because the remaining sources are inside the cabinet and behind the drum. Close the taps now if the leak runs while the machine is idle. Nothing about the appliance needs them open between washes.
