The Ariston ARWXF washer family covers four listings in the roster below, and on that platform the door interlock accounts for more of these than anything else. A washer that will not start is nearly always waiting for a condition rather than broken, and the panel usually says which one. The door interlock is the most common single failure, and it fails in a way that looks exactly like a control fault.
What an owner actually sees
- No lights, no display, nothing at all — The machine is not getting power, or it is getting power and its supply components have failed. The socket and the breaker are what separate those two in about a minute.
- It works on one programme and not another — A dead programme rather than a dead machine, which points at the selector or at the function that programme uses and the others do not.
- The display lights for a moment and then goes out — The machine is powering up and dropping out again, which points at the supply or at something drawing heavily the instant the cycle is requested.
- NEAR MISS — the machine starts but stops within seconds — Something is dropping out under load rather than refusing to begin, which is the stalled-cycle shortlist and not this one.
Causes, most likely first on the ARWXF line
- Supply: socket, plug, breaker or an RCD that has tripped — Ranked first on the ARWXF line, because it is free to check, it explains every completely dead machine, and a shared socket lets a different appliance take the circuit down without anybody connecting the two events. The wildcard tails on this roster are finish and trim, not mechanism, so a difference in what you see on the outside is not a reason to expect a different cause inside.
- Door or lid interlock not latching or not reporting — Second on the ARWXF line, because it is operated every time the machine is used and it can fail in two different ways, only one of which leaves a door that swings open.

The order to work in
- Prove the socket with something else — A lamp or a phone charger in the same socket settles the supply question immediately, and it is worth doing before the machine is moved or opened for any reason. Work them in this sequence — every step removes a branch of the shortlist for the ARWXF line that would otherwise need a panel off.
- Take half the laundry out and close the door firmly — An overloaded drum stops the door reaching its catch. It is the cheapest test on the page and it accounts for a real share of no-start calls.
- Listen at the door lock as start is pressed — A click means the lock is being energised and the machine is proceeding. Silence at the lock with a lit panel points at the lock, its wiring or the output that drives it.

Nothing on the front of the machine needs power off. Everything behind a panel starts by unplugging the appliance or switching off its breaker: a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A machine that hums without moving is drawing current into something that cannot turn, so switch it off rather than retrying. Water and mains wiring share the lower part of the cabinet, so dry any spill before power is restored.

Where the owner side ends
Call at the point where the next step needs the front or the top panel off, because that line puts the filter, the hoses, the seals and the feet on your side of it and everything else on the other. Anything that puts water on the floor is a same-day problem; anything that only costs a wash cycle can wait for a convenient appointment.
