In short
On the Ariston TVM dryer line, no heat is worth working through in a set order: half the electric supply missing, or the gas turned off first, then a cycling thermostat or a thermistor cutting the heat, and only after those does the work that needs a meter or a teardown enter the picture. That order is written for a single-model line and sequenced for how these models are put together, which is where it departs from the brand-generic article.
What an owner actually sees
- The drum turns normally and the air never warms at all — Perfect tumbling with no heat at all is the signature of a heat circuit that is not being fed.
- The machine heated intermittently before it stopped entirely — Intermittent heat that finally stops is the classic thermostat history.
- NEAR MISS — the drum does not turn either — Then it is a no-start or a broken belt, and the no-start page is the better place to begin.
Causes in the order they are worth suspecting on the TVM line
- Half the electric supply is missing, or the gas is off — First on this list: an electric dryer takes two live legs and uses one of them only for the heater, so losing a leg at a double breaker leaves a machine that tumbles perfectly and never warms; on a gas machine the equivalent is a supply valve closed after other work.
- A cycling thermostat or a thermistor cutting the heat — A failed cycling thermostat leaves the machine tumbling and blowing cold with nothing else out of place.
- The heating element, or the igniter and gas valve coils — A failed element or igniter gives tumbling without heat, and which it is depends entirely on whether the machine is gas or electric.
- A blocked vent that has opened the thermal fuse — The vent must be cleared whatever else is replaced, because a new fuse in a blocked machine opens again within days.
- High-limit safety devices, the control board or the gas valve — Last here, and the only cause on this list that is not owner work — high-limit thermostats, thermal cut-outs, boards and gas valves are all tested with a meter on live terminals, and on a gas machine that work sits next to the burner and its supply.
What to check first, second and third
- Reset the double breaker fully, or confirm the gas supply valve is open — A standard US household branch circuit is 15 A or 20 A at 120 V; a large appliance circuit is typically 30 A or higher at 240 V. Done first because it separates the likeliest causes before any tool is needed.
- Ask whether the heat was intermittent before it failed — Second: it confirms or dismisses what the first check suggested.
- Confirm which fuel your machine uses at the data plate before anything else — Third, once the two checks above are clean.
Before you start work
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never bypass a thermal fuse or a high-limit thermostat to get heat back: they operate because airflow has failed, and defeating one turns a blocked vent into a fire. If you smell gas: leave the building and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.

Where owner work ends
Call at once, and stop using the machine, if a thermal fuse has already been replaced and the machine has failed again, or if anything smells scorched. On a gas machine, any smell of gas means leaving the building first.
