Arieta Refrigerator: Water Leak
Almost all refrigerator leaks come from one of two places: the defrost drain, which blocks with debris and sends melt water into the cabinet instead of into the drip tray, or the water supply connection, which fails at a fitting or a line. Arieta is a low-volume badge sitting one letter from Arietta, applied to platforms sourced from a contract manufacturer rather than designed in-house. Clearing a drain and checking a supply fitting are owner work. A leak inside the door or from the sealed system is not.
What the owner actually observes
- Water collects under the crisper drawers or forms a sheet of ice under them.
- Water appears on the floor at the front of the cabinet, but the inside is dry.
- Water pools at the back of the machine, near where the supply line connects.
- There is ice building up in the bottom of the freezer, in layers rather than as frost.
- The drip tray beneath the machine is dry when the machine has been running normally.

Check in this order
- The supply connection at the back of the machine and along the visible run of line, with a dry paper towel — Order: first — Because: a supply leak is under pressure and gets worse, so it is worth ruling in or out before anything else is dismantled
- Under the crisper drawers for standing water or a sheet of ice, and whether the drip tray beneath the machine is dry — Order: second — Because: a dry drip tray with a wet cabinet proves the water never reached the drain, which is the diagnosis in one observation
- The door seal with the paper test at several points around the frame — Order: third — Because: if the seal is the source, clearing the drain will only postpone the same puddle
Owner-safe checks
- Open the door and read the data plate — the full model and serial string on the inner wall, the door frame or the back of the cabinet. Photograph it. - Find where the water actually starts rather than where it collects. - Clear the defrost drain from inside: find the drain opening at the base of the rear freezer wall and flush it gently with warm water from a turkey baster or a soft bulb until it runs freely into the tray below. — Step: fourth — Tools: a bulb syringe or turkey baster, warm water — Time estimate: under a quarter of an hour
- Check the supply connection at the back with a dry paper towel wrapped round the fitting, and follow the visible line for kinks or damage. - Photograph the data plate and the back panel before touching anything, and keep both images with you while you work. If a part has already been replaced on this machine, compare the fitted part against the plate rather than against the badge. — Step: sixth — Tools: a phone camera — Time estimate: a few minutes
- Stop condition: Stop before removing the rear freezer panel to reach a frozen drain from behind, or before disturbing a supply line you cannot isolate — both need a technician.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water on a floor next to a mains appliance is a shock and a slip hazard at the same time, and a supply line stays pressurised until its valve is closed. Do not use a wire or a sharp tool to clear a defrost drain from inside the freezer — the drain passes close to the evaporator tubing. When to call a technician
The line is any leak you cannot reach, isolate or see the start of. Call if the drain blocks again soon after being flushed, which usually means ice in the drain line behind the rear panel. Call if the leak is at the supply connection and closing the valve does not stop it. Call if water is appearing inside a door that carries a dispenser. Call if you find an oily residue rather than water, which indicates the sealed system rather than a leak of water.
