Before you open anything
Poor washing on an Arctic Wind washer is most often a dosing and loading problem rather than a fault: an overloaded drum cannot move clothes through the water, and an under-dosed wash in hard water leaves soil behind. Where it is a fault, the usual finds are a blocked detergent drawer, a heater that no longer works, or a machine that never reaches the water level it wants.
The observable signs
- Clothes coming out with the same marks they went in with — Mechanical action. A packed drum cannot tumble and nothing scrubs.
- A grey, dull look developing over months — Under-dosing, low temperatures, or both. It builds up rather than appearing suddenly.
- Detergent left in the drawer at the end — A blocked drawer or a weak fill. The detergent never reached the drum.
- Residue and streaks on dark fabrics — Over-dosing or too little rinse water, which is the opposite problem.
- NEAR MISS: one item badly stained after every wash — Something in the load is transferring colour or fibre. Wash it alone once and see.
Where the fault usually sits
- Overloading — First, and unglamorous. Clothes must move through the water; a drum filled to the top is a drum where nothing circulates.
- Dose and product choice — Second, especially in hard water where the dose on the packet is a minimum rather than a maximum.
- Detergent drawer or dispenser blocked — Third, and easy to confirm: powder or gel sitting in the drawer at the end says it never left.
- Cold washing only — Fourth. Body oils and greasy soils need warmth, and a machine used exclusively on cool quick cycles accumulates residue.
- Heater failure or a weak fill — Last, and the genuine faults on this list rather than habits.

- Wash the same load again at half the size — It isolates overloading, which is the biggest single cause, at no cost.
- Look in the drawer at the end of a cycle — Residue there is direct evidence.
- Feel the door glass late in a hot programme — Cool glass on a warm wash points at the heater.
- Check the dose against local water hardness — It is free and it is frequently the whole answer.
Hands-on, without tools you do not own
- Remove and wash the detergent drawer and its housing — Slime in the housing roof restricts the flush and is invisible until the drawer is out.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never open a door or force a lock during a hot wash: the water inside is hot enough to scald and the door lock is what stands between you and it. Keep detergent and softener away from skin and eyes when clearing a blocked drawer, and never mix a bleach product with a descaler in the drum.
Where the owner fix ends
Call when the machine is clean, the dose is right, the load is halved and the results are still poor, because the heater, the fill level and the motor drive now need measurement. Call sooner if the glass stays cold on a hot programme, since that is a heating fault rather than a habit. A machine that has washed badly since installation is often a supply or drainage installation question rather than an appliance fault, and that is worth saying when you book.
