The honest summary
An Arctic Wind dishwasher that stops partway is failing either its fill check or its drain check, and the timing of the stall tells you which. A cycle that runs far beyond its stated time is a different fault: the machine is waiting for a temperature it cannot reach. Neither needs a panel removed before it is understood.
What you actually see
- Stops within the first few minutes with a dry or shallow tub — Fill. The machine expected water and did not get enough in time.
- Stops with water standing in the tub — Drain. The most common single stall on any dishwasher.
- Runs for hours without finishing — Waiting on heat. The clock on a dishwasher is a prediction and it stretches.
- Finishes on time with the load untouched — The cycle ran without circulating, which points at the wash pump.
- NEAR MISS: a long quiet pause mid-programme — Soak phases exist on longer programmes and are not a stall.
Causes, most likely first
- Drain restriction — First, because the control abandons a cycle it cannot drain and because filters block gradually until they block completely.
- Fill restriction — Second: a partly closed tap, a blocked inlet screen or a kinked hose fills too slowly to pass a timed check.
- Heating fault — Third, and it presents as a cycle that never ends rather than one that stops.
- Door latch losing contact under vibration — Fourth, and identifiable because it stalls at a different point each time.
- Wash pump not circulating — Last of the common causes, and the load comes out dry-dirty rather than wet-dirty.
A sequence that saves time
- Record the four timestamps — Start, first water, wash noise, stop. This is the whole method.
- Check the supply tap and the inlet hose — Thirty seconds and it settles the fill branch.
- Lift the filter and pour a jug into the sump — It either goes or it does not.
- Feel the door late in a hot programme — A cold tub moves the heater up the list.

- Open the supply tap fully and straighten the inlet hose — A partly open tap fills visibly but too slowly to pass a check.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A machine that has stalled late in a hot programme holds water hot enough to scald: let it cool before bailing, and bail with a jug rather than tipping the machine, which puts water into the base tray where the wiring is. Keep control of the door while you work, because a loaded door on a stalled machine is heavier than it feels.
When to stop and book someone
Call when the fill is proven, the drain is clear and the machine still abandons its programme, because the pressure switch, the pump and the control now need measurement. Call promptly if water has been standing in the tub for more than a day, since that becomes a hygiene problem on top of the repair. A machine that stalls at a different point every time usually has a latch or a supply problem, and saying so when you book changes what the technician brings.
