The short answer
On the Arctic Wind MAV washer line, a cycle that will not complete is worth working through in a set order: a restricted drain stretching or repeating steps first, then slow or partial fill from closed taps and blocked inlet screens, and only after those does the work that needs a meter or a teardown enter the picture. That order is written for a line spanning several cabinet sizes and sequenced for how these models are put together, which is where it departs from the brand-generic article.
What you observe
- The cycle runs far longer than it used to and water is slow to leave — Time stretching without an error is nearly always drainage rather than control.
- The cycle sits at the same point for a long time with the drum still — A machine waiting on water looks identical to a machine that has stopped.
- NEAR MISS — the machine does nothing at all and the panel is dark — That is a no-power fault rather than a cycle fault; start at the socket.
Causes, most likely first on the MAV line
- A restricted drain stretching or repeating steps — First on this list: the machine will not move on from a drain step until the water has gone, so a partly blocked filter or a kinked hose turns a normal programme into one that runs for hours — and on many machines it silently repeats the step rather than reporting anything.
- Slow or partial fill from closed taps and blocked inlet screens — A slow fill stalls the cycle without any error at all, and both the tap and the inlet screen are owner-reachable.
- The door lock or lid switch is not confirming — A door lock that does not confirm stalls the cycle before it begins, which is why it is checked before anything electronic.
- Programme selection, a child lock or a paused cycle — The control panel is worth one more look before a visit is booked, because a hold or a lock costs nothing to clear.
- The control board, a sensor or the motor control — Last here, and the only cause on this list that is not owner work — a board that resets mid-cycle, a heater or level sensor reading wrongly, or a motor control cutting out is diagnosed with a meter on live terminals, which is where owner work ends.
Check in this order, and why
- Watch a drain step and time how long the water takes to go — Slow water leaving is a restriction, and the filter is the first place to look. Done first because it separates the likeliest causes before any tool is needed.
- Check both taps are fully open and listen for water entering — Second: it confirms or dismisses what the first check suggested.
- Close the door firmly and listen for the lock engaging — Third, once the two checks above are clean.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut both taps before touching an inlet hose and have towels ready — the hose stays charged after the tap closes. Do not bypass a door interlock to make a cycle run.

When to call a technician
Call when the taps, the screens, the filter, the hose and a full cancel have all been done and the cycle still will not complete, because what is left is the control side. Bring the list of where it stopped each time.
