A leaking Amana ASD is almost always a blocked defrost drain rather than a burst line. The model matrix on this page lists three model numbers under this family badge. The tell is whether the water is inside the cabinet or on the floor, and whether it is there constantly or only after the unit has run for a while.
What you observe
- A sheet of ice on the freezer floor — Ice under the bottom basket builds in layers, one defrost cycle at a time.
- Water at the front of the floor, usually after a cycle — Water appearing at the front edge of the floor some hours after the appliance has been running.
- Water running down the inside of the door liner — Droplets on the shelves and running down the inside of the door, which is condensation rather than plumbing.
- NEAR MISS — water only in the drain pan at the back — A wet drain pan is the expected end of the defrost path, not a fault.
What it usually is, in order
- Door seal, alignment or a door held ajar — First on the ASD line because a paper test costs nothing and because a door that does not seal produces both the condensation and the humidity load that blocks the drain in the first place.
- Blocked defrost drain — Second, and the one that explains a puddle that returns on a schedule rather than continuously.
- Supply or dispenser line joint — Third because supply water is distinguished from melt water by a single test — shut the household valve and wait — and because it moves to the front of the queue as soon as flooring is affected.
- Drain pan or the drain tube outlet — Last, and it is a look rather than a measurement — the pan is either cracked, displaced or fine.
Check in this order, and why
- Close each door on a strip of paper at several points — First because it is free, and because a door that is not sealing is both a cause of condensation and the reason drains overload.
- Check the doors are closing squarely and nothing fouls them — A bin, a shelf or a cabinet leaning back holds a door off its seal without anyone noticing.
- Clear the defrost drain at the rear of the freezer floor — Third: with the humidity source addressed, the drain is where the resulting water has been failing to go.
- Shut the water off and check the back of the unit — Last: it separates a pressurised leak from everything else, and it needs an hour of waiting to be conclusive.
Before you open anything
Safety
Switch the appliance off at the breaker or unplug it before working on it, and dry the floor first; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never clear a frozen defrost drain with a metal probe pushed hard — the tubing behind the liner is thin. Warm water down the drain and patience do the job without turning a blockage into a hole.

Book a technician once the drain is clear, the gasket seals and water still appears, and book one immediately if the leak is continuous rather than cyclical. On the ASD line the practical line is the liner: work in front of it is an owner job, and work behind it is not.
