The short answer
An Amana ASD that makes no ice, or makes hollow and undersized cubes, is telling you about water flow and freezer temperature before it tells you about the ice maker itself. The matrix on this page is the definitive list for this family: three model numbers. Both of those are checkable from the front of the cabinet, which is why they rank above the module.
What the owner notices
- Hollow, undersized or cloudy cubes — Short fill or slow fill produces cubes that look right in outline and are light in the hand.
- Cubes fused into one solid block in the bin — A single frozen mass in the bin instead of loose cubes, which means the bin warms between cycles.
- Water pooling under the bin or freezing in the fill tube — A plug of ice in the fill tube that grows a little with every cycle until nothing gets through at all.
- The module cycles and nothing is ejected — An audible cycle with no harvest is a supply symptom seen from the mechanism end.
- NEAR MISS — the whole freezer is soft and the cabinet is warm — Then this is a cooling failure and the ice maker is only the first thing you noticed; the cooling page is the right one.
Ranked causes for these models
- Shut-off arm, bin sensor or a jammed harvest — First on the ASD line because a mechanism that has stopped itself is commoner than a mechanism that has broken, and because lifting the bin out to look costs nothing.
- Supply line, shut-off valve or a spent filter — Second because the water has to arrive before anything else matters, and the door dispenser confirms the whole supply path in one press.
- Fill tube iced over — Third: a slow leak past the valve refreezes in the tube and builds a plug, so each cycle delivers less than the one before.
- Inlet valve, module or freezer temperature — Last: the group that needs a measurement rather than a look, and the group that usually needs a technician.
What to check first, second, third
- Lift the bin out and look at the arm, the sensor and the tray — First because a stray cube under the arm, frost on the sensor or a cube jammed in the rake stops production with nothing broken.
- Dispense water at the door — This proves the supply path in one move and decides whether the search continues inside the freezer or outside the appliance.
- Check the fill tube for a plug of ice — A tube that has frozen shut explains a module that cycles and delivers nothing.
- Check the freezer temperature last — Last because it is the slowest check — a thermometer needs hours to settle — and because it matters only once the quick ones are clean.
Before any panel comes off
Safety
Isolate the appliance at its breaker or unplug it before removing the module or any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut the household water valve before disconnecting anything, and keep a towel under the joint: the line stays pressurised after the appliance is dead. Thaw a frozen fill tube with warm water, never with a flame or a heat gun.

Where owner work stops
Book a technician when the fill valve, the module or the freezer temperature turns out to be the answer, and book one immediately if the freezer is also failing to hold food. On the ASD line the practical boundary is whether the repair breaks a water joint — if it does, it is worth having done rather than attempted.
