The short answer
A water leak on a WDF dishwasher usually comes down to suds rather than a hole: the wrong detergent, or hand-wash liquid, will foam a machine until it forces water past seals that are in perfect condition. The order that follows puts the likeliest and cheapest causes first, and it is the order worth working in rather than starting with the part that sounds most serious.
What you actually observe
- Foam pushing out around the door during the cycle — Over-sudsing, which is a detergent fault and not a seal fault.
- Water under the machine but the floor in front is dry — The sump, the pump seal or a hose connection underneath.
- Water at the front of the machine under the door — A door seal or alignment problem in the great majority of cases.
- Standing water inside and none on the floor — NEAR MISS: that is a drainage fault and it has its own page.

What causes it on the WDF platform, in likelihood order
- 1. Door alignment and the strike — This is why a leak that started after the kitchen floor was redone is an installation problem rather than an appliance failure. Mechanical causes rank high because all six WDF listings run the same base mechanism, so its wear pattern is the family's wear pattern.
- 2. The seal around the door — The gasket hardens with heat and age, and once it stops taking a set against the tub it lets water out at the bottom corners first. It is the commonest source of water on a kitchen floor from this appliance. Second on WDF: it is as common as the cause above it but takes longer to prove, so it is checked afterwards.
- 3. Too much foam — The tell is suds visible at the door. Hand-washing liquid in the dispenser, or far too much detergent, generates foam the machine was never designed to contain, and the foam carries water out past a perfectly good seal.
- 4. Seals underneath the tub — A sump gasket or a pump shaft seal weeps underneath while the front of the machine stays dry, and the water usually shows at the corner of the cabinet nearest the pump.
The order to work in on this platform
- 1. Close the door on a strip of paper at each corner and pull — Uneven drag across the corners is geometry, not a worn seal.
- 2. Dry the gasket and the floor, run a cycle and watch the bottom corners — A gasket fault shows in the same place every time and needs no tools to find.
- 3. Look through the door for foam during the wash — Suds at the door settle the question before anything is dismantled.

Isolate the machine and the water before investigating: unplug it or switch off its breaker, close the supply valve, and treat a capacitor as charged after the power is off. Water reaching a socket or spreading under a floor is a same-day problem regardless of which part is responsible. Several WDF listings are revision levels of the same base number, so two machines with what looks like the same model can be years apart in build.
