The short answer
Water that will not drain on a WDF dishwasher usually comes down to something solid in the pump: a chip of glass, a label or a fruit stone is exactly the right size to jam an impeller, and the machine will hum and move nothing. The order that follows puts the likeliest and cheapest causes first, and it is the order worth working in rather than starting with the part that sounds most serious.
What you actually observe
- A hum or buzz at the point in the cycle where it should drain — The pump is being asked to run and cannot move water.
- It drained fine until the day a new disposer was fitted — The knockout plug in the disposer inlet is the classic and complete answer.
- Standing water in the sump at the end of every cycle — Water arrived and did not leave, which is the whole of this fault.

What causes it on the WDF platform, in likelihood order
- 1. The disposer knockout plug — It is unmistakable once it is suspected: the fault starts on day one of the installation, and no amount of cleaning changes it. It ranks high because all six WDF listings connect the same way, so the installation is what varies.
- 2. Soil sitting where the water has to leave — The filter catches everything the wash lifts off the dishes. Full, it stops the water reaching the drain pump at the rate the pump expects, and the cycle ends with the sump still wet. Second on WDF, because the cause above it is found without tools and this one needs the cabinet empty first.
- 3. The household drain the machine shares — It is worth ruling in early because it is a plumbing job rather than an appliance repair and the two go to different people.
- 4. How the hose is run — The hose has to rise before it falls, or the machine siphons dirty water back and never fully clears. A hose crushed behind a cabinet or dropped straight into a trap does the same thing.

Broken glass collects exactly where the water sits, so work with a cloth, and keep the machine off while there is standing water inside it. When to call a technician
