The honest summary
An ALMO ice maker that has stopped is usually being starved of water — a closed supply valve, a frozen fill tube or a clogged filter — rather than suffering a mechanical failure. Hollow or small cubes point at partial supply rather than at no supply. The freezer temperature matters too: an ice maker will not harvest if the compartment is not cold enough, which quietly makes this a cooling question in disguise.

- No ice at all, mould empty and dry — No water is arriving. Work the supply path from the tap forward.
- Mould full of water but never harvesting — Water is arriving and the harvest cycle is not completing. Temperature and the ejector are the suspects.
- Hollow, small or misshapen cubes — Partial supply, usually a restricted filter or a partly frozen fill tube.
- A plug of ice in the chute rather than in the bin — A dispenser problem rather than a production problem, and it is usually caused by slow use in a humid kitchen.

- Water supply restricted or shut off — First, because the path includes a valve somebody may have closed during unrelated plumbing work and a filter with a service life nobody tracks.
- A frozen fill tube — Second. It happens when the freezer runs colder than the tube's heater can offset, and it presents as hollow cubes before it presents as none.
- The fill arm or sensor in its off position — Third, and free to fix. The arm gets knocked up by a bag of frozen peas and the machine obediently stops.
- Freezer not cold enough to harvest — Fourth. A freezer holds food safely at 0 degrees Fahrenheit or below, and an ice maker wants that too before it will cycle.
- Ice-maker module or mould heater failure — Last, and the only one that needs a part rather than an adjustment.
The order to work in, and why
- Check the fill arm or the on-off control first — It is the single most common cause of an ice maker that stopped for no reason and it costs nothing.
- Look in the mould — Water present or absent splits the diagnosis cleanly into supply or harvest.
- Check the filter age and the supply valve — Both live outside the freezer and both are owner-serviceable.
- Measure the freezer temperature with a thermometer — Because a warm freezer explains an idle ice maker completely.
Hands-on, without tools you do not own
- Confirm the fill arm is down or the switch is on — Lift the bin out and look. A bag of food resting on the arm is the most common cause of a silent ice maker.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel or the ice-maker module — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and the mould heater is a mains component sitting in a wet freezer. Turn off the household supply before touching any water fitting, and never thaw a frozen fill tube with a naked flame or a heat gun; warm water and patience do the same job without melting the liner.
When to stop and book someone
Call when water reaches the mould and the machine still will not harvest, because the module, the mould heater and the thermostat all need testing rather than inspecting. Call as well if the freezer cannot hold temperature, since the ice maker is then a symptom and the cooling system is the subject. If the supply line is weeping at a fitting, deal with that first and treat it as urgent: a slow leak behind a refrigerator does its damage to the floor long before anybody sees water.
