The short answer
Control complaints on a Allsing dryer divide into a dead panel, a panel that lights and refuses, and a machine that behaves oddly with nothing wrong on screen. On a dryer whose type decides the ranking: vented, condenser or heat-pump, and gas or electric, only the last commonly ends at the board.
What you are actually seeing
- The panel is dark and the machine does nothing — Supply, cord or control. Start at the breaker and the outlet.
- The panel lights but no button responds — Control lock or a hung processor. Both are free to test and both are common.
- The machine starts and then stops without explanation — Often the door switch or a thermal cut-out rather than the control itself.
- Settings do not stick, or the machine picks its own — A selector switch or a membrane with a shorted contact behaves exactly like this.
- The panel resets mid-cycle — Look at the supply before the board: a sagging circuit produces exactly this.
- Not this fault: the machine runs correctly and does not heat — That is a heating fault and it belongs on its own page.
Causes, most likely first on this machine
- A control lock or child lock engaged — First: it is free, it is common, and it makes a perfectly healthy panel look dead to every press.
- A processor that needs a real power cycle — Second: power off at the breaker for a few minutes, then back on. Boards hang after surges and this clears a genuine share of them.
- The door switch intermittently open — Third: it interrupts without explaining itself, which is why it is so often blamed on the control.
- Supply sagging or a shared circuit — Fourth: a control that resets mid-cycle is usually reporting its supply rather than failing.
- A selector switch or keypad membrane — Fifth: worn contacts produce settings that will not hold and buttons that work only sometimes.
- The control board — Last, by elimination: the most expensive part here and the least often responsible.
Check in this order, and why
- Hold the lock button and watch for an indicator — Seconds to do, and it is the commonest single cause of an unresponsive panel.
- Power the machine down at the breaker for a few minutes — A genuine cycle, not a door open and shut.
- Open and close the door and listen for the switch — An intermittent switch explains most unexplained pauses.
- Ask what else is on the circuit — A control that resets when something else starts is a supply problem in disguise.
- Only then suspect the membrane or the board — Both need the console opened, and the console carries line voltage.
What an owner can safely check
- Note exactly what the panel does — Dark, lit but unresponsive, or responsive but forgetful. The three point in different directions.

- Hold each lock-capable button for several seconds — Machines differ in which button locks the panel, and the indicator is often small and easily missed.

- Cycle the power at the breaker — Off for a few minutes, then on, then leave it to run a full short cycle before judging whether anything changed.

- Test the door switch by ear and by behaviour — Close the door firmly, start a cycle, then press gently on the door mid-cycle and see whether the machine hesitates.

- Stop here if the console has to come apart — Line voltage sits behind it, and a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing the console or any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not run the machine with the console open to watch a fault happen. Leave the door switch and its wiring exactly as you found them. Stop using the machine if a button, a connector or the console smells hot or shows scorching, and have it looked at rather than reset again. On a gas machine, if you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas utility or the emergency services from outside.
When to call a technician
Call when the lock check, a real power cycle and a door-switch test all come back clean and the panel still misbehaves, because the next steps are inside a live console. Call immediately for any scorching or hot-plastic smell around the controls, and for a machine that runs when the panel says it is off — that is a stuck relay, and it should not be left tumbling unattended.
