The short answer
A AIRMSEN dishwasher leaving dishes wet or washing cool raises two different questions, and the first is whether the machine heats for drying at all. On a compact or countertop machine with one spray arm, a small sump and a short hose run, many machines dry by condensation, and wet plastics at the end of a cycle are normal behaviour rather than a fault.
What you are actually seeing
- Dishes are clean but wet at the end — Usually the drying design plus empty rinse aid rather than a fault.
- Plastics are wet while china and glass are dry — Normal on a condensing-dry machine: plastic holds no heat to evaporate the water.
- The wash water never feels hot — Element, thermostat or incoming supply. This is the genuine heating complaint.
- Cycles take much longer than they used to — The machine is waiting for a temperature it is not reaching.
- Detergent is left undissolved in the dispenser — A strong sign the water is too cool for the cycle to work at all.
- Not this fault: a protective device trips when heating should start — Stop using the machine and treat it as an earth fault on the electrical safety page.
Causes, most likely first on this machine
- Rinse aid empty, or a drying design that was never a heated dry — First for the wet-dishes complaint: without rinse aid, water beads and stays, and a condensing machine cannot evaporate it off plastics.
- Incoming water too cold — Second: a long cold pipe run or a machine plumbed to a cold-only supply changes both washing and drying results.
- The cycle chosen does not heat much — Third, and free: eco and quick cycles wash cooler and dry less by design, whatever their names suggest.
- The heating element open or failed — Fourth: the genuine fault, and it usually shows as undissolved detergent and a long cycle rather than as a dramatic failure.
- A thermostat or thermal cut-out that has opened — Fifth: it removes the heat while everything else keeps running, which is exactly this symptom.
- The control or a temperature sensor — Last: the machine never calls for heat, and diagnosing that takes a meter.
Check in this order, and why
- Check the rinse-aid reservoir — Free, and it resolves a large share of wet-dish complaints on its own.
- Open the door part-way through a wash and feel the steam — Carefully. Steam and hot water say the element is working and the complaint is about drying.
- Check the detergent dispenser after a cycle — Undissolved detergent is strong evidence the water never got warm enough.
- Run the nearest hot tap before starting a cycle — If results improve markedly, the supply temperature was the cause.
- Stop before the element and the thermostat — Both sit at line potential in the wettest part of the machine.
What an owner can safely check
- Fill the rinse-aid reservoir and set it to a higher dose — Then run a normal load and judge the drying again. This is the cheapest test on the page.

- Compare a normal cycle with an eco one — Same load, both cycles, and note the difference. Many complaints resolve to the cycle that was chosen.

- Stop here if the element or the thermostat must be tested — That is a meter on live terminals with water present; it is not an owner check.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and the heating circuit sits in the wettest part of the machine. Opening the door mid-cycle releases steam that can scald: open it slowly, stand back, and never lean over it. If a breaker or a residual-current device operates at the point heating should begin, stop using the machine and treat it as an earth fault rather than a performance complaint.
When to call a technician
Call when rinse aid, cycle choice and supply temperature have been addressed and the wash water is still cool, because what remains is an element, a thermostat or a control inside a wet cabinet. Call immediately, rather than continuing to use the machine, if a protective device operates when heating should start. When booking, say whether the complaint is cool washing or wet dishes — they are different faults and they need different parts.
