Answer first

- Open the freezer door and listen for the change — The evaporator fan stops when the door opens, so a noise that disappears the moment the door is open is that fan. Second: the next cause in the ranking, and this check separates it from the first.
- Listen at the base or the back of the cabinet while the compressor runs — A rattle that starts and stops with the compressor comes from the condenser fan compartment. Third, once both checks above come back clean.

- Listen out for whether the noise is followed by cubes landing in the bin — If it is, the noise is the ice maker working and there is nothing to repair.
