- A frosted fill tube — First on a full-size cabinet with a freezer ice maker. The fill tube runs through the cold compartment, and once it frosts shut the mould stays dry while everything else carries on normally.
- The bail arm or the on-off switch left off — The most common cause of no ice anywhere, and the one nobody checks first. Second, and the one that costs nothing: the arm is inside the freezer where things get stacked against it, and an arm resting up is an ice maker switched off.
- The water inlet valve opening weakly or not at all — Third: the valve behind the cabinet feeds both the mould and, on cabinets that have one, the dispenser, so weak ice and a slow dispenser together point straight at it.
- The mould heater or the harvest motor — Fourth. Cubes that form and never drop are a harvest fault rather than a fill fault, and that is where the ranking turns into a service call.
Check in this order, and why that order
- Look into the fill tube above the mould for a plug of ice — A frosted tube is visible from the front once the bin is out. It goes first: top-ranked above, and free to rule out.
- Look at the bail arm or the on-off switch — An arm resting in the up position is an ice maker that has been switched off. Second: the next cause in the ranking, and this check separates it from the first.
- Note the shape of the cubes you do get — Small, hollow or half-formed cubes mean water is arriving, but not enough of it. Third, once both checks above come back clean.
What an owner can safely check
- Take the ice bin out and look at the fill tube and the mould — A visible plug of ice names the fault without any tools at all.

Call when the arm is down, the freezer is cold, the filter is fresh and the mould still never fills, because the next checks are electrical and behind the compartment wall. There is no urgency to this fault unless the cabinet is also failing to hold temperature.
