What you see and hear
- The code appears and the cycle stops where it was — The cycle halts where it was, usually with the load wet and the door locked.
- It comes back after power is cut and restored — Cutting power clears the stored code. If the circuit still reads out of range, the control posts it again at the next attempt, and how quickly it does so is a clue in itself.
- NEAR MISS — the machine completes the cycle but the result is wrong — A cycle that finishes with wet, cold or over-soaped laundry and no code is a sensing circuit the control still trusts.
Causes, most likely first
- The water inlet temperature sensor has drifted out of range or gone open — Ranked first because it is the part the code names and the part that ages in place.
- A connector at either end of the circuit has backed out or corroded — An open contact in a plug reads to the control exactly as a dead sensor does, and it is the cheapest of the three to rule out.
- The control that reads the circuit has failed — Last, deliberately: it is the expensive answer and the least likely one, and it is only credible once the three above have been cleared at the board connector.

- Cut power, restore it, and time how long the code takes to return — It costs nothing and it halves the problem. An instant return means something is open or shorted all the time, a delayed one means heat or movement is part of it.
- Follow the visible part of the harness run with your eyes — Chafe, a pinched loop and browned insulation are faults you can see, and finding one here ends the diagnosis before a meter comes out.
- Measure the sensor and its circuit at the control connector — This is the step that separates the part from its wiring, and it is where an owner's checks end.
