10-3 and wet dishes
Whirlpool's service list gives 10-3 a two-word meaning: poor dry. Dishes, and plastics in particular, come out wet at the end of the cycle. Most poor drying has everyday causes: an empty rinse aid dispenser, a drying option switched off, a crowded load, or unloading the top rack first so that water drips from cups onto the plates below. Work through those first. If dishes stay wet with rinse aid filled and heated drying selected, a heating or venting part may need a technician. Many owners find the fix is simply topping up the rinse aid.

What poor drying looks like
- Water pooled on cup bottoms — Cups and bowls placed upright collect water. Their upturned bases form little dishes that hold water.
- Plastics wet while glass and china are dry — Plastics hold less heat, so they dry worst.
- Droplets on everything — Suggests rinse aid is missing or the dose is too low. Spots and streaks on glasses are another clue.
- Wet dishes only on the bottom rack — Often water dripping from the top rack during unloading.
- A cold tub at the end — Points to the heat or drying stage not working.
Ranked causes of poor drying
- No rinse aid — First: without it, water clings in droplets instead of sheeting off. It is the most common reason for wet dishes.
- Drying option off or an eco cycle — Second: energy-saving settings dry less.
- Loading that traps water — Third: cups upright, bowls nested, items crowded together. Large items can also shield smaller ones from the drying air.
- A heating or venting fault — Fourth: the heater, its control or the vent may not be working.
Checks in order
- Check the rinse aid level — Refill the dispenser if the indicator shows low. Many dispensers have a dial to raise the dose.
- Check the cycle and options — Select heated dry or an extra-dry option if available.
- Look at the loading — Tilt cups and bowls so water runs off.
- Unload the bottom rack first — This prevents drips from the top rack.
- Feel the tub at the end — Warm is normal; cold suggests a heating fault.
Owner steps for 10-3

Safety while checking drying
Safety
The heating element in the tub floor gets very hot, so do not touch it straight after a cycle. Let steam escape before reaching in, and handle hot dishes with care. Never run the dishwasher with the door forced open or the latch tampered with. Keep rinse aid and detergent out of children's reach.
When 10-3 needs a professional
Call if dishes stay wet with rinse aid filled, heated drying on and good loading, or if the tub is cold at the end of the cycle. A professional tests the heating element, its control and the drying vent. Mention whether the dishes used to dry well and when that changed, as a sudden change points to a part.
