The short answer
On a Vitara Fort refrigerator no ice is usually water supply shut off, kinked or never fully opened, not a failed ice maker. The module is the part people blame and the last part that is actually at fault. Most of this you can settle before you book anyone.
What you actually observe
- It cycles and fills but the cubes come out small or hollow — Water is arriving, but not enough of it.
- NEAR MISS: the whole cabinet is warm — Then this is a cooling fault, and the ice maker is a symptom rather than the problem.
Causes, most likely first on this unit
- Water supply shut off, kinked or never fully opened — The saddle valve behind the unit gets closed for a plumbing job, knocked when the fridge is pushed back, or was never opened fully after installation. Ranked first on this unit: it is the first thing disturbed whenever the unit is moved, and moving a refrigerator is exactly what happens before this fault appears, which counts for more here because this is a badge with little published service documentation, which is exactly why this list starts with what you can observe and ends with what only a meter can settle.
- A frozen fill tube or fill cup — A slow trickle at the end of the fill freezes in the tube instead of running into the mould. Next, and for a closely related reason: on a cabinet that is opened often the fill end sits in the coldest, wettest air in the appliance, so it is where ice forms first.
- A failed ice maker module or harness — The motor, thermostat and heater live in one sealed module. Bottom of the list, deliberately: everything above it produces the same empty bin for a fraction of the cost.
The order to check in
- Trace the water line behind the unit and check the valve is fully open — A closed or half-turned valve explains every symptom on this page at once.
- Look into the fill tube at the back of the ice maker for a plug of ice — Ice visible there ends the diagnosis on the spot.
- Only once water is confirmed at the mould and the freezer is cold — At that point the module is what is left, and it is a parts job.
What an owner can safely check
- Pull the unit out and follow the water line back to its shut-off valve — Open it fully. Check the line is not crushed against the wall.
About 15 min
- Look at the fill tube where it enters the ice maker and thaw any plug with warm, not hot, water — Never chip ice out with a knife or a screwdriver.
Tools: warm water, a clothAbout 20 min
- STOP AT THIS POINT if the fault is on the sealed system — Refrigerant is licensed work and the tools for it are not owner tools.
Safety first, and it is not boilerplate
Safety
Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before removing any panel or pulling the ice maker. Shut the water supply off before you disturb any fitting, and never thaw a fill tube with a heat gun, a hair dryer on high or boiling water: the plastic distorts and you will turn a free fix into a parts job. Never chip ice out of the mould with a blade.
The line between a fix and a service call
Call once water is confirmed arriving at the mould and the freezer is holding temperature, because at that point the fault is inside the module or its harness. Call sooner if you find water anywhere it should not be, or if the unit trips a breaker when the ice maker tries to cycle.

What is deliberately not on this page
This page covers the Vitara Fort refrigerator as a class, not one family or model line. Where a family- or model-specific page exists it is linked here. Deliberately not here: module part numbers, fill-volume adjustment, valve resistance figures and any harness pinout, all of which differ by family and belong on the page for that family.
