In short
Most new refrigerator noises come from something touching something else, not from a failing compressor. On this machine the first suspect is cabinet not level, or touching a wall or cabinetry.
What you observe
- A ticking or chirping from inside the freezer — Something is touching the evaporator fan blade — usually frost.
- A buzz or hum from the bottom rear that comes and goes — The condenser fan or the compressor, and the timing tells you which.
- A rattle that stops if you press on the cabinet — Panel, tray or tubing resonance rather than a component fault.
- NEAR MISS — noisy and also not cooling — Then noise is the symptom and cooling is the fault; the cooling-failure page ranks it properly.
Causes, most likely first on a SKS refrigerator
- Cabinet not level, or touching a wall or cabinetry — A cabinet resting against a wall transmits ordinary compressor vibration into the structure behind it. Ranked first on a SKS refrigerator: it is free to check, free to fix, and the commonest reason a quiet machine became a loud one after being moved.
- Drain pan vibrating or sitting out of position — The pan under the cabinet collects defrost water and rattles against the frame when it is not seated.
- Evaporator fan blade catching frost or a worn fan bearing — A dry fan bearing whines or chirps whenever the compressor runs and goes quiet the moment it stops.
- Ice maker filling, harvesting or running dry — An ice maker with no water supply cycles anyway, so it buzzes and clunks to no purpose.
Check in this order, and why
- Push gently on the top corners and see whether the cabinet rocks — Any rock at all means the feet need adjusting.
- Reach under the cabinet with the power off and check the pan is seated square — Press on it while the machine runs: a noise that changes is the pan.
- Open the freezer and press the door switch in: does the noise start with the fan? — If the noise continues with the door open and the switch released, the fan is not the source.
What an owner can safely check
- Level the cabinet on its feet and pull it far enough forward that nothing touches the wall — A cabinet standing square on all four feet with clear air behind it loses most of its noise.

- Switch off, pull the lower grille and reseat the drain pan squarely in its rails — If the pan is cracked or warped it will rattle again; if it is simply out of place, this is the fix.

- STOP HERE if the next check needs a panel off or a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner checks end and a service call begins, whatever the ranking says.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Leave the door switch wired as you found it. Never take a knife, a screwdriver or a heat gun to frost on an evaporator: the tubing behind it is thin, pressurised, and a puncture ends the appliance. Empty a loaded cabinet before you move it.
When to call a technician
The line is simple: reseating, levelling and clearing debris are owner work, and anything requiring the freezer rear panel or the lower deck to come off is not. Call sooner if the cabinet has also stopped holding temperature. Door and hinge work on a panelled machine is a trained job: the panel weight is carried by the hinge springs and a mis-set hinge damages the cabinetry as well as the appliance.

What this page does not cover
This page covers the SKS refrigerator as a class, not one family or model line. Where a family- or model-specific page exists for your unit it is linked above and it is the better answer — read it first. Deliberately not here: part numbers, wiring colours, panel removal order and torque figures, all of which differ between families under one nameplate.
