The short answer
A microwave door is a safety component, not a lid. On this machine the first suspect is hinge wear or a door that has begun to sag.
What you observe
- The door has to be pushed to make the oven run — The latch is no longer pulling the door up tight.
- A visible gap along one edge of the closed door — The door is sagging or the opening has distorted.
- The door drops when opened instead of swinging — Hinge wear, and the cause of most alignment complaints.
- NEAR MISS — sparking inside the cavity — That is an arcing fault and belongs on the electrical-safety page; stop using the oven now.
Causes, most likely first on a SKS microwave
- Hinge wear or a door that has begun to sag — Sag is why a latch that was fine for years starts failing without anyone touching it. Ranked first on a SKS microwave: it is the cause behind most latch wear, so fixing the latch alone leaves the fault in place.
- Latch hooks worn or a broken latch tip — The hooks pull the door up against the frame; worn or chipped, they leave the door close but not tight.

- Interlock switches mis-set by the door position — The oven then refuses to run, or runs intermittently, with no visible damage anywhere.
Check in this order, and why
- Open the door halfway and let it hang: does it drop? — A door that sinks under its own weight has hinge wear.
- Look at the hooks with the door open and the oven unplugged — Rounded or chipped hooks are visible without dismantling anything.
- Look along the door channel and the frame face in good light — Baked grease in the channel is both the diagnosis and the job.

- Unplug the oven and inspect both latch hooks and the strike for wear, chips or a broken tip — A worn latch is a repair, not an adjustment. Never pack, tape or bend anything to make it catch.

Safety
Unplug the microwave before you touch anything beyond the cavity and the door. The outer cabinet stays on: a microwave holds a high-voltage capacitor that can retain a lethal charge long after the plug is out, and it is not an owner-serviceable machine. Never defeat, tape or bend a door interlock switch — those switches are the only thing that stops the magnetron running with the door open. Never run the oven empty, and stop using it altogether if the door will not close and latch properly.
When to call a technician
The owner's part here is cleaning and looking. Latches, hinges, doors and interlock switches are repairs, and a microwave whose door does not latch properly stays unplugged until one is made. Door and hinge work on a panelled machine is a trained job: the panel weight is carried by the hinge springs and a mis-set hinge damages the cabinetry as well as the appliance.
