In short
A freezer that runs without freezing has usually lost airflow or gained warm air, not lost its compressor. On this cabinet the first suspect is the room, the load or the clearance around the cabinet.
What you observe
- Ice cream is soft and packets feel pliable — The cabinet is above freezing point but not obviously warm.
- A heavy build-up of frost on the walls or the lid — Warm humid air is getting in, and the frost is the evidence.
- Frost has formed over the air vents at the back — An upright that can no longer circulate its own air.
- NEAR MISS — it freezes fine but water appears on the floor — That is a drain or a condensation problem, and the water-leak page ranks it.
Causes, most likely first on a Signature Kitchen Suite freezer
- The room, the load or the clearance around the cabinet — Garages, porches and sheds swing far outside the range a freezer was designed for, in both directions. Ranked first on a Signature Kitchen Suite freezer: most freezers live in the worst room in the house, so the environment is the first thing to question.
- Frost build-up choking the airflow — On a frost-free upright, frost over the vents stops the circulation the cabinet depends on.
- Lid or door seal not sealing — A chest lid that no longer sits flat, or an upright gasket that has hardened, lets warm humid air in all day.
- Condenser coil or compressor compartment clogged — The coil rejects the heat the cabinet removes; under dust it cannot, and in a garage it collects dust fast.
Check in this order, and why
- Note how warm or cold the room gets, and check the clearance around the cabinet — A nearly empty freezer loses its cold every time it is opened.
- Look at the thickness of the frost on the walls and over the vents — On an upright, frost over the rear vents is the whole story.
- Close the lid or door on a sheet of paper and pull it out, right round — Anywhere the paper slides free is a leak you can feel.
What an owner can safely check
- Pull the cabinet clear of the wall, and fill empty space with bottles of water or crumpled newspaper — A full freezer holds its temperature through door openings and power cuts far better than an empty one.
Tools: water bottlesAbout 20 min
- Empty the cabinet into coolers, switch it off and let it defrost completely with the lid open — Never chip or pry at frost: warm air and time only. Dry the cabinet before restarting it.
Tools: coolers, towelsAbout 60 min
- STOP HERE if the next check needs a panel off or a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner checks end and a service call begins, whatever the ranking says.
Before you open anything
Safety
Disconnect power before opening anything and let any capacitor bleed down before you reach past a board. Frost comes off with warm air and time, never with a blade. Sealed-system and refrigerant work is licensed work and is never an owner job. Empty a loaded freezer before you move it.
When to call a technician
Call once the seal, the frost, the clearance, the coil and the setting are all dealt with and the cabinet is still warm, because what is left is behind a panel or on the refrigerant side. Move the contents first — a freezer full of food is worth more than the repair. Use an installer or technician authorised for the line: panelled and integrated machines can be damaged by the removal itself, and the trim and hinge hardware is specific to the family.

What this page does not cover
This is the generalised Signature Kitchen Suite freezer page. A family- or model-specific page, where one exists, is linked above and is the more precise answer for your unit. Left out on purpose: part numbers, connector colours, the order panels come off in, and every torque figure — a generalised page cannot be right about any of them.
