The answer first
Most new freezer noises come from something touching something else, or from a cabinet that has been moved. On this cabinet the first suspect is cabinet not level, or touching a wall.
What you observe
- A buzz from the back or the base that comes and goes — The compressor or its mounts, and the timing tells you which.
- A rattle that stops when you press on the cabinet — Panel or tubing resonance rather than a failing part.
- A knock once or twice an hour — Expansion, or a defrost cycle starting on a frost-free cabinet.
- NEAR MISS — noisy and also not holding temperature — Then the noise is a symptom; the cooling-failure page ranks the real fault.
Causes, most likely first on a Signature Kitchen Suite freezer
- Cabinet not level, or touching a wall — A freezer resting against a wall transmits ordinary compressor vibration straight into the structure. Ranked first on a Signature Kitchen Suite freezer: freezers are moved and re-sited more often than any other appliance, and the noise usually starts the same day.
- Drain pan or base tray vibrating — It is always mistaken for the compressor because it sits directly above it.
- Tubing or a wiring loom resting against the cabinet — This is almost always the cause when the noise appeared straight after the cabinet was moved.
- Compressor mounts and ordinary running noise — A compressor hums, and in a quiet garage or basement that hum carries much further than in a kitchen.
Check in this order, and why
- Push gently on the top corners and check the clearance behind — Any rock means the feet need adjusting.
- Reach under with the power off and check the pan or tray is seated — Press on it while the unit runs: a noise that changes is the tray.
- Look at the rear of the cabinet for lines touching the frame or each other — Lines should have air around them; a contact point is the noise.
What an owner can safely check
- Level the cabinet on its feet and pull it far enough forward that nothing touches the wall — A cabinet standing square with clear air behind it loses most of its noise immediately.

- Switch off, check the base tray or drain pan is seated square in its rails, and reseat it — A pan simply out of position is a free fix; a cracked one is a cheap part.

- STOP HERE if the next check needs a panel off or a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner checks end and a service call begins, whatever the ranking says.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the freezer or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is down. Do not chip or pry at frost: on a chest freezer the tubing is moulded into the wall and a puncture releases the refrigerant. Warm air and patience are the only safe tools. Empty the cabinet into coolers before you move it, and mind a heavy lid.
When to call a technician
Call when the noise is a grinding that worsens, when a fan behind a fixed panel is clearly the source, or when the cabinet has also stopped holding temperature. A rattle alone is rarely urgent. Use an installer or technician authorised for the line: panelled and integrated machines can be damaged by the removal itself, and the trim and hinge hardware is specific to the family.

What this page does not cover
This is the generalised Signature Kitchen Suite freezer page. A family- or model-specific page, where one exists, is linked above and is the more precise answer for your unit. Left out on purpose: part numbers, connector colours, the order panels come off in, and every torque figure — a generalised page cannot be right about any of them.
