Miele isn't a generic-board swap: the T1 range (Classic, Passion, Excellence) uses different board variants, and heat-pump models add compressor control on top.
What the ELP board does#
It reads residual moisture from the stainless sensor bars in the drum — they measure the conductivity between damp fabric and the drum — and uses that to hit your chosen dryness, from Iron Dry to Extra Dry. On heat-pump models (the TWF, TWI, and TWR lines) it also runs the compressor and refrigerant cycle that recovers heat from the exhaust, watching suction and discharge pressures and several temperatures — a far more complex job than a vented dryer. It talks to the display over a ribbon cable, and on M-Touch models the touch controller lives on the main board itself.

Signs the board is failing#
- Several error codes appearing in sequence — the self-diagnostic flags multiple subsystems as the board degrades.
- A mid-cycle stop with no code — cracked solder joints trip the thermal-protection circuit.
- Moisture sensing off — damp clothes on Normal Dry or scorched ones on Iron Dry mean the board is misreading the sensor bars.
- The heat-pump compressor won't start (heat-pump models) — the board can't begin the refrigerant cycle.
- A flickering display or ghost touches — the integrated M-Touch controller failing.
- Motor but no heat, or heat but no motor — a failed relay, since the board can't drive both at once.
Replacing the board#
- Disconnect the dryer from power — 240V on most US models.
- On vented models, pull the exhaust duct off the back.
- Remove the top panel (Torx Plus T20 screws at the rear edge, then slide it back).
- The board is at the front top behind the control fascia; remove the control-panel screws (Torx Plus T15) and tilt the panel forward.
- Photograph the harnesses, then disconnect the main power harness, sensor bus, motor connector, and heater-relay connector.
- On M-Touch models, ease off the fragile display ribbon cable.
- Remove the four Torx Plus T15 board screws and lift the board out.
- Fit the new board, reconnect every harness to its original spot, and rebuild the panel and top cover.
- Restore power and run the diagnostic (hold Start for 5 seconds at power-up).

Critical: heat-pump boards must be initialized with Miele's service tool to calibrate the compressor — skip it and the heat pump may run inefficiently or trip safety shutdowns, which is why heat-pump board jobs really belong with a technician.

Miele runs an OEM-only parts policy, so there are no aftermarket boards — the higher price is offset by the machine's 20-year design life and Miele's parts support.
How long it lasts#
Miele dryer boards typically run 15 to 20 years, matching the machine's design target, though heat-pump boards average a little less (12 to 18) for the extra compressor circuitry. The usual early killers are power surges — the biggest one, especially for the sensitive heat-pump control — plus fine lint that slips the filter and settles on the board, and moisture from a blocked condensate drain on condenser and heat-pump models. A surge protector, cleaning the lint filter every load, and clearing the condenser unit monthly all help the board reach that 20-year mark.
