The short answer
A Maytag freezer ice maker that has stopped is a water-path problem before it is an ice-maker problem. Work along the path in order: the shut-off arm, the supply valve, the filter, the fill tube and only then the ice maker itself. Most no-ice calls end at one of the first three, and each of them is visible without a meter.

What to check, in order
- look at the shut-off arm and confirm it is in its lowered, running position. — Because: it is the cheapest possible answer and it is knocked upward constantly.
- note whether the tray is dry or holds ice. — Because: a dry tray is a water-supply diagnosis and a full frozen tray is a harvest diagnosis, and they share no parts.
- check the age of the water filter and the position of the supply stop behind the unit. — Because: both are common, both are owner-correctable, and both starve the fill.
- look for a plug of ice in the fill tube at the rear of the compartment. — Because: a frozen tube blocks every fill afterwards, so it must be cleared before any other test means anything.

Unplug the unit before reaching behind the ice maker or removing a panel, and never use a knife, screwdriver or hot metal to clear ice, since the fill tube and evaporator tubing behind it puncture easily. Do not pour hot water into the ice maker to thaw it; use a warm damp cloth and let it work.
Where the owner fix ends
Lowering the arm, changing the filter, opening the supply stop and thawing the fill tube are owner work. Call a technician when the tray fills with water and never harvests, since that is the module, mould heater or thermostat; when the fill tube refreezes after being thawed, which means the fill is short rather than blocked; and when the compartment is above the safe holding temperature quoted above, because ice production needs the compartment cold first.
