The short answer
F8 E3 points at the oven cooling fan or the wiring to it. The fan is what keeps the cabinet, the trim and the control board below their limits while the cavity is hot, so this is a code to act on rather than dismiss, even though the oven will usually still cook.

| F8 E3 | There may be a problem with the Oven Cooling Fan, or the associated wiring. |
What you observe, and what to record
- The fan is audibly wrong — It is quieter than usual, cuts in and out, or cannot be heard at all when the oven is hot.
- Whether the code followed any recent work — An installation, a service visit, plumbing or electrical work: anything done near the appliance in the weeks before is worth mentioning.
- How long the ${A} runs before the code appears — Immediately from cold, or well into a session — that interval is the most useful single number you can hand a technician.
Causes, most likely first on this oven
- An airflow restriction around the cabinet — First because it is the cheapest to find and the commonest to be true. The fan cannot move air that has nowhere to go.
- A fan motor that has stiffened — Second: dry bearings are the normal end of life for this part and they announce themselves by noise before they stop.
- A wiring or connector fault at the fan — Third, for the usual reason — the harness runs through the hottest part of the cabinet.
Check in this order, and why
- Listen at the top trim while the oven is hot — The fan should be clearly audible. This one check separates a fan that is not running from a fan that is running and not believed.
- Confirm the fan keeps running after the oven is switched off — The run-on is how the fan is supposed to behave; no run-on is a strong signal on its own.
- Check the cabinet cut-out and the vent path — Before any panel comes off, because a restriction is free to fix and a fan is not.
What an owner can safely check
- Cut power at the breaker for a few minutes and restore it — Clears a latched fault so you can see whether it returns under load or was a one-off.
About 5 min
- Photograph the display with the code showing — Codes are easy to transcribe wrongly and a photograph is not. It also timestamps the fault, which matters if it becomes intermittent.
About 5 min
- Copy the full model number from the rating plate — Brand code indexes are shared across model lines, and the model number is what lets the code be read against the right one.
About 10 min
- STOP HERE before removing the rear or top panel — The fan and its harness are behind live terminals.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Let the cavity cool completely first: the racks, the door glass and the trim all hold heat for far longer than the display suggests, and the lock will not release above its own threshold anyway.
When to call a technician
Call once the airway is demonstrably clear and the code still lands, or once the fan is silent when it should be running. Call sooner if you can smell hot plastic or see discolouring at the trim — that means the cabinet has already run hotter than it should, and the oven is better left off until it has been looked at.

What this page does not cover
This page reads F8 E3 for KitchenAid ovens in general, from the manufacturer's shared code index. A code can be documented differently for one family, so where a model-line page exists for your unit it is the more specific answer and is linked below. Not here: wiring colours, connector positions and part numbers, which differ by family.
