- run the dispenser and judge whether the water flow is strong. — Because: weak flow at the dispenser points straight at the filter or the supply.
- check the filter age and change it if it is overdue. — Because: it is the top cause of a short fill and it is entirely owner work.
- measure the freezer compartment with an independent thermometer. — Because: a warm compartment slows harvests even with a perfect water supply.
- confirm the supply stop is fully open, not merely open. — Because: a partly open stop reduces the fill without producing any other symptom.

Kill power at the breaker before reaching behind the ice maker or removing a panel, and never clear ice with a knife, screwdriver or hot metal, since the fill tube and evaporator tubing puncture easily. Close the supply stop before disturbing any water connection.
Where the owner fix ends
Changing the filter, opening the stop and measuring the compartment are owner work. Call a technician when cubes stay undersized with a new filter, a fully open supply and a compartment at the safe holding temperature quoted above, because the inlet valve and the fill timing then need measuring.
