The short answer
Water on the floor or in the cabinet: on an Insignia dishwasher that is usually foam pushing water out of the door, not a failed pump seal. If that is clean, a load aiming water at the door is next. Most causes below are owner checks needing no tools and no panel off; the last is a service call.
What you are looking at
- It leaks with some loads and not others — The same cycle behaves differently by load.
- Water appears at the front of the door — A line of water along the floor at the door.
- Foam is visible around the door — Suds at the seal or on the floor.
- NEAR MISS -- damp only under the sink — That may be the plumbing rather than the machine; check the stop and the trap.
Causes, most likely first on this kind of unit
- Too much detergent, or the wrong kind — Foam lifts water over the door seal and out along the floor. First here, because on an Insignia unit -- mainstream mechanics, cost taken out of the electronics this is the commonest leak of all and the only one that costs nothing to test.
- An item is deflecting water at the door — A tray, a baking sheet or a tall lid standing at the front turns the spray straight at the door seal. This rank, because water aimed at the door will find its way past any seal.
- The door gasket has hardened or is fouled — The gasket runs round the tub opening. Placed here: a broken seal at one point leaks in the same place every time.
- The pump seal or tub seal — A seal that has hardened drips under the machine, worst when the pump is loaded. Bottom of the list, deliberately: it is the one cause here that is not an owner repair, so it is last.
Check in this order, and why
- Run a cycle with no detergent at all — A machine that stays dry through a detergent-free cycle was foaming, not leaking.
- Ask which loads leak and which do not — Load trays and sheets along the sides rather than across the front, then re-test.
- Only after door, load and fittings are dry — Water appearing under the centre of the machine during the wash is a service call.

- Dry everything, then run a cycle with no detergent — Watch the door and the floor and note the exact minute water appears.
