The short answer
On an IKEA dishwasher, water on the floor or in the cabinet is usually a hardened or fouled door gasket rather than a failed pump seal. Second, and worth checking in the same hour, is foam pushing water out of the door. The top of that list is owner work; only the last cause needs a technician.
What you are looking at
- Water appears at the front of the door — A line of water along the floor at the door.
- Foam is visible around the door — Suds at the seal or on the floor.
- The cabinet floor beside it is damp — Swollen or stained cabinet base with a dry room floor.
- NEAR MISS -- damp only under the sink — That may be the plumbing rather than the machine; check the stop and the trap.
Causes, most likely first on this kind of unit
- The door gasket has hardened or is fouled — The gasket runs round the tub opening. Ranked first on an IKEA appliance on its mainstream OEM platform: the gasket on this machine takes every hot cycle, and it fails at one point rather than everywhere.
- Too much detergent, or the wrong kind — Foam lifts water over the door seal and out along the floor. Placed here: foam carries water past a seal that is otherwise perfectly good.
- An item is deflecting water at the door — A tray, a baking sheet or a tall lid standing at the front turns the spray straight at the door seal. This rank, because water aimed at the door will find its way past any seal.
- The pump seal or tub seal — A seal that has hardened drips under the machine, worst when the pump is loaded. Last, and that is the point of the order: it is the one cause here that is not an owner repair, so it is last.
Check in this order, and why
- Run a finger all the way round the gasket — Look for hardening, tears and trapped debris, especially at the bottom corners.
- Run a cycle with no detergent at all — A machine that stays dry through a detergent-free cycle was foaming, not leaking.
- Only after door, load and fittings are dry — Water appearing under the centre of the machine during the wash is a service call.
