Frigidaire Dryer Control Board Replacement Guide — Cost, Signs & DIY Tips
Frigidaire dryer control boards sit behind the console panel at the top of the dryer. Gallery models (EFME prefix) use IQ-Touch capacitive buttons — the same technology as the washer platform — where unresponsive buttons typically trace to moisture on the board rather than physical button failure. Standard models (FFRE for electric, FFRG for gas) use simpler electronic boards with mechanical push buttons or rotary selectors, where failures tend to be relay-related.
Model Tier Board Differences
| Tier | Prefix | Board Type | Common Failure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard electric | FFRE | Electronic timer/relay board | Relay contacts weld or burn |
| Standard gas | FFRG | Same board as FFRE, plus gas valve relay | Gas valve relay failure |
| Gallery | EFME | IQ-Touch capacitive + main logic | Moisture-related touch failure |
| Professional | FPRE | Similar to Gallery | Same as Gallery |
The Gallery IQ-Touch system uses two boards: a capacitive touch interface board behind the control panel overlay, and a main logic board that controls relays for the motor, heater, and gas valve. These boards can be replaced independently — diagnosing which one failed saves money.

Symptoms of Dryer Control Board Failure
- Buttons unresponsive on Gallery IQ-Touch models — first, try cleaning the console area and letting it dry completely. Moisture from steam (especially if the dryer sits next to a washer) infiltrates the capacitive touch layer. If cleaning does not help, the touch interface board has failed
- Dryer starts but does not heat — the heater or gas valve relay on the main board is not energizing. The motor runs (relay works) but the heat circuit does not close
- Dryer runs continuously, ignoring the cycle timer — the timer relay contacts on the board have welded shut. The board cannot break the circuit to end the cycle
- Display shows an error code but the code does not match any symptom — board firmware corruption. Frigidaire dryer boards do not support field reflashing
- Burning smell from the console area — a board component (usually a relay or capacitor) is overheating. Disconnect power immediately and inspect the board for scorch marks
Board Replacement Cost
| Component | Cost |

| Electrolux cross-reference | 10–15% less |
| Aftermarket/refurbished | $40–$120 |
| Professional labor | $100–$180 |
| DIY total | $80–$250 |
| Professional total | $180–$480 |

Accessing the Control Board
- Unplug the dryer (or disconnect power at the breaker for hardwired gas dryers).
- Remove the console end caps — pry off with a flat-head screwdriver. They are spring-clipped.
- Remove the Phillips screws at each end of the console (revealed by removing end caps).
- Tilt the console forward — it hinges on clips at the rear. The control board is now exposed, mounted on the back of the console panel.
- Photograph all wire connectors before disconnecting. Gallery models have a ribbon cable between the touch board and main board — note the ZIF connector orientation.
- Remove the board mounting screws (2–4 Phillips screws). Swap boards.
- Reassemble console, tighten screws, snap end caps back on.
Tools: Flat-head screwdriver, Phillips #2. Time: 20–35 minutes.

Gallery IQ-Touch Moisture Fix
Before replacing the IQ-Touch board, try this: unplug the dryer, remove the console, and use a hair dryer on low heat to thoroughly dry the area behind the touch panel overlay. Moisture from washing machine steam can accumulate behind the panel. If the buttons work after drying, the board is fine — add weatherstripping between the washer and dryer to block steam migration.

Diagnostic Approach
Frigidaire dryers do not have a built-in diagnostic mode like the dishwashers. Diagnosis is component-level:
- Motor runs but no heat → test heater relay on the board (should click when cycle starts), test heating element/igniter, test thermal fuse
- Motor does not run → test motor relay on the board, test door switch, test motor
- Timer does not advance → board timer circuit failure
The service sheet (taped inside the console cover) contains the wiring diagram for your specific model. Use it to trace the relay outputs with a multimeter.
FAQ
Why are my Frigidaire Gallery dryer buttons unresponsive?
Moisture behind the IQ-Touch panel is the most common cause. Dry the console area thoroughly. If buttons remain unresponsive, the capacitive touch board has failed.
Can I replace just the touch panel board on a Frigidaire Gallery dryer?
Yes — the IQ-Touch interface board and main logic board are separate. Diagnose which failed before ordering. Touch board failure = buttons unresponsive. Main board failure = buttons work but dryer does not respond correctly.
Where is the Frigidaire dryer service sheet?
Taped inside the console cover. Remove the console end caps and screws, tilt forward, and look on the back of the console panel or attached to the dryer top.
Are Frigidaire and Electrolux dryer control boards interchangeable?
On shared-platform models (same generation), yes. Cross-reference part numbers — the Electrolux version may cost less.
