The short answer
On a compact tub the door seal is doing a hard job in a small space, and what defeats it is almost always something sitting on the sill or the machine not standing flat. Both are cleared in minutes. The latch takes the whole sealing load on this design, so a latch that has to be forced is a warning rather than a quirk.
