Most of the time on a EuroDesign refrigerator this comes down to one of two findings: a fouled condenser coil or blocked condenser airflow, or a door that is not sealing, closing or latching properly. A cabinet that still runs but no longer holds its set point is almost never a dead compressor — it is an airflow, door or siting problem that has quietly removed the machine's margin.
How this shows itself
- A sheet of frost on the back wall behind the shelves or baskets — Ice on the evaporator surface itself, rather than the light dusting a defrost cycle leaves behind.
- The fitted door is heavy on its hinge, or the cabinet run has been closed off behind the appliance — An integrated installation makes the cabinetry part of the machine, and both of those are installation faults rather than appliance faults.
- NEAR MISS — the cabinet is silent and nothing at all is cold — That is a no-power, start-relay or control fault, and it belongs on the will-not-start page rather than this one.
Likely causes in order
- A fouled condenser coil or blocked condenser airflow — Ranked first on a EuroDesign refrigerator because this platform has more filters than owners expect — and a European dryer or washer will complain about a filter long before it complains about a component. Dust, lint or grease on the condenser stops the machine rejecting heat, so it can no longer reach its set point however long it runs.
- A door that is not sealing, closing or latching properly — Second here: a fitted door adds weight and leverage to a hinge that was set for a bare door, so seal and alignment faults arrive early.
- Insufficient clearance or a blocked ventilation path — The cabinet cannot reject heat into a space that has no air movement, and an enclosure that was fine in winter is not fine in summer.
What to check first, second and third
- First: Pull the unit out or open the lower grille and look at the coil and the condenser fan for a blanket of dust or debris. — It sits first because this platform has more filters than owners expect — and a European dryer or washer will complain about a filter long before it complains about a component.
- Second: Close the door on a slip of paper at several points around the frame and try to pull it out. — Next, and it needs no tool.
- Third: Look for a clear air path behind, above and below the cabinet, and check whether anything is stored hard against it. — Only once the checks above are clean.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never puncture, cut or heat any tube on the sealed system: the refrigerant inside is under pressure, and both the recovery and the recharge are licensed work. Keep the door interlock and door switch wired as they are; they cut the internal fan for a reason.
Where the owner work ends
Call a technician once the vents are clear, the door seals, the condenser is clean and the cabinet still will not hold temperature — at that point the remaining candidates are a fan motor, a control or the sealed system, and only the first of those is quick. Call immediately if the compressor is hot to the touch and cycling every few moments, if you can see oil around the tubing, or if a breaker trips when the unit starts.
