The short answer
No heat on an Essentiell unit narrows quickly. Either the heating element or its relay has failed, a thermistor is reporting a temperature the water never reached, or the machine is being fed cold water on a cycle too short to heat it.
How the fault presents
- No steam when the door is opened at the end — A healthy hot cycle releases visible vapour as soon as the door cracks.
- Detergent tablet left whole, or powder caked in the dispenser — Detergent needs warm water to dissolve, so the dispenser tells you about temperature.
- An error indicator at the end of a cycle that otherwise completed — Some platforms flag a heating timeout rather than stopping the wash.
- Crockery is cold at the end of a full cycle — Open the door immediately at the end: no steam and cool plates is the clearest sign.
- NEAR MISS: the machine stops part-way through with water in the base — A stalled cycle is a cycle or drain fault.
Causes, most likely first
- Heating element or its relay has failed — Most likely on this platform: the element sits in the sump, it cycles every wash, and when it opens the machine carries on washing cold rather than stopping.
- Fed from a cold supply with a short cycle selected — Second most likely here: worth ruling out early because it is free to test and because it is a setup fault rather than a failure.
- Thermistor or thermostat reporting the wrong temperature — Third in order: a sensor that reads high tells the board the target is met, so the element is never asked to work and nothing appears broken.
Where to start, and what follows
- Confirm the symptom precisely before anything else — A full hot cycle that ends cold, with no steam and an undissolved tablet, is the evidence a technician needs to go straight to the element circuit.
- Run the longest hot cycle the machine offers, empty — If the door is hot to the touch at the end, the heating circuit works and the fault was the cycle.
- Note whether the cycle time changed as well as the temperature — A sensor reading high usually shortens the heat phase; an open element lengthens it.
What you can safely check yourself
- Check the dispenser for undissolved detergent — A whole tablet at the end is strong evidence of a cold wash.
About 5 min
- Check which supply the machine is plumbed to, if the connection is visible — Cold-fed machines need the long cycle to reach temperature.

- Run one cycle with a cleaner to strip scale and grease — A maintenance wash also rules out soil masking as a heat fault.

- STOP HERE before testing the element or the relay — Element and relay checks mean a meter on mains terminals in a wet sump.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. allowlist:unplug-before-service
The line between a fix and a call
The line sits where the evidence stops being visible. Cold plates, a whole tablet and no steam after a long cycle on a clean machine is a complete case for a service visit: hand it over at that point rather than ordering an element on the strength of it.
