What this usually means
An Erivess machine that washes cold is usually a hot-water supply problem rather than a failed heater, because many machines sold in this market take hot water from the house rather than heating their own. Because these units are wheeled to a sink and drained into it, start at the taps, the hoses and the mixing valve. Only machines with an internal heater, typically sanitize cycles and combination units, can fail in the way owners expect.
How the fault presents
- The hot tap in the laundry runs cold or slow — If the house supply is the source, the machine can only be as hot as the tap.
- The door glass or drum is cold at the end of a warm cycle — Feel the glass directly after the cycle ends rather than judging by the clothes.
- A sanitize or allergy cycle refuses to run or times out — Those cycles depend on an internal heater, so they fail first when one does.
- NEAR MISS: the machine has no hot setting at all, only cold and warm — Some compact platforms are cold-fill only by design.
What is usually behind it, in order
- Hot supply closed, slow, or the hoses swapped at the valves — Top of the list: hoses reversed at install put cold into the hot inlet, and the machine then mixes exactly as instructed and washes cold for years. - Inlet screens blocked on the hot side — Second most likely here: screens are cheap, reachable with the valves closed, and they are the most overlooked restriction in a laundry.
- Mixing or inlet valve not opening the hot side — Third: the valve that blends hot and cold can fail on one side only, which gives warm-when-it-should-be-hot rather than a total failure.
The order of checks, and why
- Run the laundry hot tap, then check which hose is on which valve — Feel both hoses during fill: the hot one should warm in your hand within a minute.
- Close the valves and inspect both inlet screens — A furred hot-side screen is a complete explanation and an owner-level fix.
- Compare a cold, a warm and the hottest programme — Different results across programmes point at mixing rather than at supply.
