The short answer
Excess foam is the leading cause of Ellipse complaints, and it does not look like a detergent problem from the outside. Foam cushions the drum so the machine cannot balance a spin, confuses the pump so drainage times out, and leaves residue on laundry. Reduce the dose and most of the fault list disappears. The pump filter is the second cause.
The problems that actually happen, by what you observe
- Spin aborted repeatedly, load comes out soaking — Foam cushioning the drum so the machine cannot reach or hold spin speed.
- Cycle runs far longer than usual with extra rinses — The machine detecting suds and adding rinses to clear them.
- A drain error with a clear filter and hose — Foam in the pump reads as an obstruction and times the drain out.
- White residue or stiffness on washed laundry — Detergent that never rinsed away, at a concentration the machine cannot clear.
- Water left in the drum at the end — The drain did not complete — the filter, or the foam above it.
- Musty smell from the drum and drawer — Residue plus cool washing. It builds in the same places the foam leaves deposits.
Problem classes in frequency order on this brand
- Detergent over-dosing and excess suds — First on a compact machine, and the cause least often suspected. A dose sized for a full machine produces foam that cushions the drum, blinds the pump and defeats the rinse, so a single habit produces three unrelated-looking faults at once.
- Pump filter blockage — Second. The filter behind the plinth collects coins, clips and fibre and is meant to be cleaned periodically. Loaded, the machine cannot drain within the time the cycle allows.
- Overloading and balance — Third. A small drum spinning fast cannot balance a bundled or single heavy item, so the extract is aborted and the load stays wet.
- Residue and biofilm — Fourth, and downstream of the first: what does not rinse away collects in the drum, hoses and drawer, where it smells and marks laundry.
- Pump, interlock and bearing faults — Last. Genuine failures happen, but on this machine they are diagnosed correctly only after the dosing and the filter have been dealt with.
Which of these an owner can fix
Dosing for a compact machine rather than a full-size one, cleaning the pump filter, loading sensibly, running an occasional hot maintenance wash and leaving the door ajar between loads cover the great majority of what gets reported. Call a technician when the machine will not drain with a clean filter and no foam, when the door will not release with an empty drum, when the drum rumbles at speed, or for anything that trips protection.

This page is generalized across Ellipse washer families and model lines. Dosing guidance, filter access, drum sizes and interlock parts differ by family and belong on the family page where one exists — that page supersedes this one for your machine.
