Water escaping in an apartment reaches the floor below quickly, so stop the machine and contain the water before investigating. Drain into a shallow tray, never onto a mains lead, and do not attempt repairs on a machine in a shared laundry that you do not own.
When to call
Call the building manager or a plumber when other drains are slow or the standpipe backs up, because the fault is in the shared plumbing. Call an appliance technician when the drain is proven clear, the hose is correctly installed, the filter is clean and the machine still holds water. In a rented flat, report it rather than repairing it.
